housing size, for a hatchling?

Just bought a female snow hatchling from Susan, and for now I have a 16"x10"x6" plastic reptile terarrium thing from the pet store, used it when i first bought my amel. Just wanted to check with you all to see if thats not too big or anything for the snake as of now. I am also using a rectangle stainless steel, 5"x2"x1/2"deep water dish at one side, still looking around the house for a temporary hide. sound ok??

-post suggestions for a temporary hide if youd like! cant wait for the snake to arrive later today!!

i found a small country crock butter bowl, and cut a opening onto one side. looks like perfect size, for a temporary hide. is Naturebark ok for the substrate?

Setup sounds fine. You can use pretty much anything for a hide, the snake won't care as long as it can hide under it.

Are you using a heat source? UTH or something ... I presume you have it under one side of the tub if you are ....

I've no idea where you are, if you live somewhere warm you may well not need one.

Not so sure about the substrate though. Can't say it's one I've ever come accross in the UK. From what I can find about it online though, it sounds like it's aimed more at high-humidity setups.

Is it quite wet?

You don't want too much humidity for corns.

Aspen seems to be the substrate of choice on here. I've always used repti-bark which, by the sound if it, is quite similar to the stuff you're using. Never had any problems but I'll be trying out aspen when I next do a full cleanout of my vivs though .....

:)

An empty toilet tissue roll makes a great hide. Plus, when they get soiled, you can just toss them and get another one. I don't know about the substrate. It's not one I'm familiar with. I used newspaper for mine when I first got them.

the substrate sounds like the stuff you use, reptibark.. its really dry, dark red and brown bark. it says it also prevents mites, etc.

good idea on the toilet paper roll, we actually considered it, and still might put one in along with the bowl thing.

no heat source yet, i live in florida, i open my blinds during the day and at night if its cold at all i have a heat light above the shelf they are on. the temp is usually 75 or so in my room.

I use toilet paper rolls but I staple one end off. It lets the snake crawl against the back and feel even more secure.
