This is gonna cost me rep points again

Well i asked my reptile vet what the deal was with canibalism. All these photo's scared the heck out of me. He told me canibalism among corns is a rare thing and if it happens, it's usually a result of much stress. As long as i would give then enough room and separete hiding spaces for both on both sides of the viv (and feed seperate!) he said risks were neglectible. Ofcource the risk is always there. Canibalism, though depending on the spieces (some species simply are canibalistic) may occur by all. But these are faults of nature and never ment to be. So theres always a risk involved.
Many *many* people keep corns together with no problems. A tiny proporting keeps them together and end up with 1 fat snake. Though in most cases when i see the photo's i see them in a tiny container (not all).

I'm going to another reptile fair here in Holland in just a minute. I'll ask around at corn snake breeders to hear their opinion. If anything new comes out i'll let you know.

Oh, ok. I've run into a couple of reptile vets who say that the risks of keeping them together is minimal, but most of them, including my own, thinks that its not a good idea. I personally have not been keeping snakes as long as many people on this forum, so I tend to take their advice on this subject. But I figure that as long as someone knows the risks I think its up to them to decide.

Anyhow Jicin, I asked you a question and you answered it nicely, I don't see why your rep points would be docked for that.

Oh yeah.

Well i asked *8* corn snake breeders today at the reptile fair in Zwolle. Ranged from breading from 0.5 till 5 years. Non of them ever had a case of canibalism. 1 never housed 2 together though. 2 awnsered they didn't know the awner to my question but that they at least had no problems. 1 awnsered one may smell the mouse in the others belly and decide to have a snack. 4 awnsered the same as my vet. Just as long as you give them enough room, avoid stress and feed seperaturely. Though 1 of them i had serious doubts to his breeding abilities. His stock didn't look very healthy. He did have a beautifull stiped snow, but seeing his sister from the same breeding pair kinked i decided not to take the risk.

As much as I have spent on my reptiles, there is no way I would take any risk. Doesn't make sense to house them together. It's asking for trouble, and I don't like living on the edge of it. :)
