Remember me?
I'm the one who wants a CornSnake.
But firstly I want to know how long and how thick these snakes usally get, and how big should the terranium be. (Can you build your own cage, and is heating really necesary?)

Please give me some info

3.5 to 5 feet and about as big around as a thick broom handle.

a 24 inch x 12 inch x 12 inch enclosure should be fine. 20 gallon US long aquarium.

There are plenty of references as to space needs in some of the other posts here, so I won't repeat.

Hi, Franscio

Hi, and welcome. Yes heating is very necessary, unless the room where you plan to keep your snake is very warm, the snake needs a temp of between 75 to 85 deg. or somewhere in that range. They need to be able to go from cooler to warmer as they please. Half of your cage needs to be 75, and the other half needs to be about 85 deg. This way the snake can go to the warmer side when he needs to digest his food, and if he gets too warm he can cool off on the other side of the cage. Lots of information on this site, just read the post, and ask lots of questions. I am learning more and more everyday!

I have a corn snake who is currently 4 feet. I haven't measured his diameter (and I'm not going to now because he's digesting), but he's a good bit thicker than any broom handle I've seen. His neck is quite slender, but his body at its thickest is more substantial. Some males do get over 5 feet, but usually not by much. As far as I know, the largest males have been around 6 feet - but this is VERY large for a corn snake.

Has anyone suggested to you to purchase 'The Cornsnake Manual' by Bill and Kathy Love. If you are a new owner, then this will answer all of your questions, including how big do cornsnakes grow.
