how can i improve my tank?

i like the cage but like everybody said that the light is in the cage and will burn the snake ...but it seems too crowded. It looks comfy but get a bigger cage and space things out.

I'm from UK and keep my lights outside the tank for the reasons stated above. My snakes seem to be able to climb into every nook n cranny of their tanks so I would never have the bulbs inside. My leos tank has a guarded bulb inside but they have a 'tall' viv and nothing anywhere near the bulb so that they could climb near it. If you have a heat mat, you shouldn't need any other source of heating unless you are having probs keeping the temps up.

just how are you supposed to get a tank temp of 85degrees with just a heat mat alone without resorting to a mat so powerful that the substrate becomes scaldingly hot?
i`m assuming here that the tank is in a room with widly fluctuating temps, sort of 65-80 depending on the effects of the central heating etc...
i just cannot see that it is safe to generate the heat required from a UTH alone....

Actually, the substrate temps are what you are measuring so it's quite easy to get adequate temps using a mat alone. They are also kept in a warmish room so don't have wildly fluctuating temps.
