Er, you really shouldn't be able to get a plain amel hatchling from breeding two snows. All hatchlings should be snows in this case. There is always the possibility, however slim, that the female retained some sperm from an earlier breeding with a non-snow male. Snakes can retain sperm for quite a long time in some cases, and it looks like that must be what happened here. Either that, or the neighbor lied. Breeding a snow with an amel het for snow could produce the hatchlings pictured.
 
yeah but......

the weird thing is - he only has two snakes - both snows and they were barely old enough to breed (only 7 eggs total, 6 hatched) so this was their first clutch - I also thought a pair of snows could only produce snows
 
What if one of the snakes was actually a less than patternless blizzard (thereby mistaken for a snow), het for anery A? In this instance, half of the clutch would be snows het for anery B, and half would be amels het for anery A and anery B. If this were the case, you could get two "snows" to breed and get snows and amels in the clutch.

Your friend may not know exactly what he/she has there. Other than that possibility, I can't think of anything right away.

oh I am absolutely positive my neighbor has no clue what hes got (or what hes doing for that matter) LOL
 
Have you seen the snows? Maybe they're not snows at all, and this guy's trying to rip you off.... though 4 snakes for $40 is still pretty good.
