how do i pick him up

he keeps moving away from my hand when i place it there, should itry to gently grab him, hes very engergtic and scared ithink.

I have a small hammer for my corns here, when they atart to squirm Ill just thump them and they quit moving for a while...lol. I am kidding of course, just pick it up and it will probably calm down one it is in your hands..

Yeah Id let it settle in for about a week before I started playing with it. I know its hard..lol..

one suggestion you may wanna get the cornsnake manual by kathy love
or check out some of the care sheets written by experienced breeders.
they all recommend leaving a newly acquired corn alone for at least four to five days

I fully agree....I know you want to take him out but you need to give the little guy a break and let him settle in first.

okay, its so hard since i used ot catch snakes, it was much easier to grab them and be bit, you could just let them go, but this guy is my friend so i dont wnana make him mad.

I know it's hard not to do...LOL

What color is it? Where did you buy him from?

definitely let him settle in before trying to handle him. and if he's especially skittish, give it an extra day or two.

as far as how to pick him up....gently around the midsection, not to tight, and be sure to give him support so he feels safe. even though it's hard, don't be scared or nervous yourself when you do it...he will sense that and won't feel comfortable in your hands. if he tries to get away or is squirmy, give him a minute in your hands and he should calm down.

he just needs some time to get to know you, ive had my little samus for about 2 months, and she only gets annoyed when she's about to shed.
here's a tip. if he tries to bite you or run (run? can they run?) away from you, just catch him unawares. :grabbit: this may sound harsh, but if you want him to act as if he likes you, then you need to hold him at least 10 mins a day, or it will take a long time for her to warm up to you like my baby girl does.

leave him alone for at least 4 day. Then i'd attempt a small feeding. Then get him on a once a week feeding schedule and have 2 or 3 weeks, then i'd start to handle him. I very careful about inducing any kind of stress.

If you have the time, you can sit next to the tank and place you hand in there and just let him smell you. doing this once ever 1-2 days will help him become accustomed to your presesnce. just a thoguht.

Small snake hook...

I have this problem with Tigger sometimes. It took me some practice to get over jerking back if he struck at me, know I just let him grab on... :grabbit:

My son Alex, however, is not so brave so I made him a small snake hook. I read on another web site, too, that a small paint roller with the roller part pulled off works great. I saw one and Lowes and it looks almost like my hook!
