How do i provide heat?

Ok guys heres the deal. My aunt has been keeping spot, 7 month old jungle for me because i dont have a viv for him yet. Today i brang him home in a plastic tupperware about 20x10. The snake is pretty small for his age as hes been having problems accepting its food, he would eat one week and not the next... So my only question is, how do i provide heat if the viv is plastic? i cant just put a uth under it... I need help asap! My house is set to 70-73 and my room is the warmest out of the whole house so i have it in there on a wood stand.

Just an idea, but what about using a uth but put a towel on top? Check the temp first but maybe that could work. Or even an electric heating pad? under a towel? Thats my guess anyway.

If you attach a thermostat to the UTH, you can use it very safely with a plastic tub. The stat will ensure that the temp stays stable and the mat doesn't overheat and melt the plastic.

It has been suggested many times on this board to attach the UTH to a piece of ceramic tile. This will help distribute the heat evenly as the ceramic will hold the heat very nicely. Place the tub over the tile or duct tape the tile to the tub. This is just another possibility and should not melt the plastic. Good Luck and hope this helps.

You can just put the UTH under the tub. If it got hot enough to melt the palstic then it would be way to hot for your snake anyway. With any type of UTH you should use some sort of device to controll the output of it. The warmest part under the substrate should not get over 89*F.

Ok thanks guys! I got the uth and attached it to a piece of ceramic tile and attacthed it to the tub. It works just fine and the temp is around 80-83*

Thanks once again for all your wonderful help! :wavey:

I had been using toweling between the viv and UTH they kept overall good but badly fluctuated all the time, I just tried the thing with the ceramic tile between UTH and viv and the temps just skyrocketed, Luckily I was checking all the time and found out not long after doing this, So right now I have nothing on the UTH, but have raised the viv up a bit to let the UTH breathe, and the temps have gone down nicely, now to see if they stay there or continue to go down.
Getting my thermostat VERY soon! I need it SO badly, I can't relax!
