How long can they be kept???

I only have one corn snake (Mojo) and right now she is eating 2 pinkies every 5 days ( she is 20" and 18g as of last week when I weighed her):dancer:

Anyway, I don't want to pay $12 for 6 pinkies at Petsmart...that just seems wrong. I am going to go with TMF, but here is my problem, they ship in incriments of 50 pinkies (the smallest amount from what I gathered from their website). Since she is only eating 2 pinkies every 5 days ( the equivelant of 4-6g every 5 days), 50 large pinkies seems like it would take her forever to eat that amount.

So here is my question...and I have gotten such a mixed response from the petstores I have asked...and yes, I did search before I wrote this...but it didn't give me much of an answer. How long can I keep the mice in my freezer before they go "bad", freezer burned, or whatever you want to call it...???

Also, What should I store them in...bc the bag they come in doesn't look resealable so I am going to have to break the pack down some kind of way....???

Any help is always greatly appreciated :grabbit:

am not 100% sure, but if i remember i think Mice without fur (pinkies) Only last around 6 months if stored right. anything with fur can go for a year. but thats what i read. i only keep something for 6 months but then again i wish my frozen mice would last 6 months. am always having to buy more with 4 hungry snakes! i think as long as to store them right they should be fine. Freezer bags are fine but i love the little vacuum sealer Bags. Key thing is to keep air out.

Hi.
I also got sick of buying mice locally from the pet store for such an absurd price. Besides, I was noticing more of the (not to be gross) black-mush-bellied pinkies that just seemed unhealthy to feed to my snakies. I actually talked to someone who worked at the local Petco's where I was going and she told me that they accidentally get thawed out and refrozen on a not too inoften basis.
Anyway, I recently ordered 150 pinkies from The Mouse Factory. I'll never go anywhere else again. I spoke to the owner, who called me personally and she said that 6 months is about right with pinkies, but that if I did what I was planning (and have since done) which was to individually freeze them as close to airtight as I could in seperate baggies, then it could be much longer.
My thought on the matter, is also, by the way, to order as many as you can at one time. Shipping is what seems to cost the money, not the prices of the mice.
Good luck.

I third...fourth, eighth...Who know's what number we're on for the quality of The Mouse Factory mice. A friend and I just split an order to save on shipping. I got way more mice then I need right now, but there's a show in February so I'm planning ahead.

I did do the math at one point. If all you buy is one pack of fuzzies, the cost per mouse is only $.75...much better than the $1-2 from the petstore. And MUCH better quality. If you can split an order with someone nearby it becomes much cheaper.

I got one of those Reynolds Handy-vac ziplock sealers (from Safeway) for $10. After opening packs I just re-vacuum seal them. The nice thing is that I can use the same bag over and over since it's resealable. I also weighed/separated/labeled the fuzzy's by weight. Anal, but it makes it easier to grab the smaller mice.
