hi all,
Im just getting to grips with my first corn snake which ive now had for 2-3 months. No problems so far touch wood.I was just wondering as my snake is showing now signs of shedding how long it usually takes or length of time in between sheds? Also does 2 fuzzies every week for a 1yr old corn length of 2-2 and a half ft sound okay for amout of feed. Any help much appreciated thanks..

I don't know how much to feed a i year old. Mine is only 5 months old. But for a 1 year old snake it would shed onec ever month or every two months. I hope that helps.

I feed many of my yearlings 2 fuzzies per week. However, each snake is different. Keep the food items 1 to 1 1/2 times the diameter of your snake and you should be fine.

Shedding is mostly a function of growth. When they are young, corns will shed on average every 3-5 weeks. Remember that at a young age they are converting up to 30% of their food intake into new growth. But again every one is different. I have a yearling male that hasn't shed in 2 months, but is eating on the same feeding schedule as the ones that are shedding every 3-4 weeks.

If your snake looks health, eats regularly and is active, I wouldn't worry. :)

shedding time

My juvy corn took a while on her first shed. Even though color was starting to fade, fed 3 pinkies on 4/19. That was last feed until 5/3. It took about a week for eyes to blue and another 4-5 days after they cleared for the shed on 5/1. The entire time rarely left hide. That was first shed since bought on 3/22/03. She is 18-20" and am now feeding 1 fuzzy/wk since 3 pinkies were no problem. Really tried my patience waiting to see if everything went OK.
