I have a corn that is about 4 months old, probably about 12 inches long. How do I know when to go from 1 pinky to 2? I feed him a pinky every 5 days right now, but how will I know when to give him more than that? Does it depent on his size or his age?? I've tried to find it on other sites, but really didn't find what I was looking for.
 
General Rule

The general rule is to kind of keep your eye on the lump in the cornsnakes stomach. If it seems like the lump is not that big and it disappears quickly (day or two), than it probably can handle more. It's a trial really. If it seems like it's still hungry after eating one and is still looking for food thats a good bet that its ready for two. Worst case scenario you put a second in after its done eating the first and see if it goes for it. If so there you go, two it is.
After moving to two pinkies then after maybe a month or two you should be ready to hop on up to fuzzies, especially if you are feeding every five days. But unless you wanna overfeed I'd push back feeding to 5-6 days apart (if you are feeding two pinkies in one meal). It's all a judgement call.

The lump is the most determining part though. If it's small, go for two.
 
Also remember, when bumping up from one size meal to the next. The meal should never be bigger than 1/2 the biggest and thickest part of the snakes body. The snake will know if it wants or needs more to eat. If it is full it will leave the second meal be, maybe move around it for a bit and just decide against it. If it's still hungry it will go for it. It's in the snakes nature to know what it needs as far as food. Let it do the deciding.

half the thickest part?
i was under the impression that the meal should be about equal to the thickest part
is that right?
if not then pinkies are too big for my snake...

Feed your snake an food item that is 1 1/2 times the snake girth.
And by the way, snakes are opportunist eaters. They will eat whenever the can, even if it's not healthy for them.

Thanks for the replies...well, the lump really isn't that big at all when he eats, so I guess I'll try two next week. I was really happy when I read that he wouldn't eat both if he wasn't hungry, but then after reading more comments, I'll just cross my fingers and hope I'm doing the right thing. If I'm going according to the lump in his belly though, he's definetly ready for two!!
I fed him last night, do you think I could feed him again tonight, or should I wait for the next feeding now? :shrugs:
