How often can you pick op a corn without it getting to stressed.?

Hi there, the question is obvious.

My GF is going abroad for 6 months and I will take care of her corn in the meantime. My GF is always a bit (to ?) carefull about how often she picks up her corn (ones every 2 weeks or so), because she could get "stressed".

Can I pick up her corn more often while she is gone without it dropping dead from a heart attack

I don't think you have to worry about it keeling over. Maybe she knows that it won't eat if it's been handled that week - or something. Stress from handling doesn't hurt the snake immediately. It's a cummulative thing that affects the snake over time.

That said, every two weeks is pretty few and far between. Good for the snake though. And I'd be P.O.'ed if my snakesitter didn't follow my instructions - for what it's worth. :santa:

But play it by ear. You know, if the snake is out and exploring the cage again a few hours after being held, it's probably OK to pick it up as much as every other day. If the thing freaks out and is genuinely terrified for a week straight afterwards, maybe it's best to stick with the 2 week thing.

It sometimes depends on the individual, but as long as the snake seems happy while out of its tank and isn't struggling or behaving in a frightened manner, I personally consider it acceptable to handle a corn every day.

I handle mine almost every day, sometimes every other day. He usually mellows down immediately when I pick him up. I notice that occasionally he seems frantic, and wants nothing more than to get out of my hands, and I usually let him have what he wants. Sometimes I wait until he settles down, and sometimes I put him back in a viv right away. Six months seems like plenty of time to get to know your GF's snake. Watch the snake closely and learn how it behaves in general and how it reacts to being handled. Just make sure to run it by the GF if you plan on doing something other than she told you ;)

Most corns are fine to handel everyday, at once every two weeks I'd be more concerned about the snake going ferrel to be perfectly honest

I agree with everybody else. Once a day is good, however, since your GF has a different handling routine, it may be good to slowly ease into a more frequent schedual (with your GF's approval first :) ).

The only thing i can think to add to this is the scent factor.

Try to use the same type of hand soap as your GF uses to wash your hands before handling the snake. They sometimes have a tendency to associate the owners scent with some form of saftey.

It may help with keeping his stress level low.

Just pick the darned thing up whenever you feel like it, except for the 72 hours following a feeding. This corn keeping business ain't rocket science; quit over-analyzing everything folks. And if you don't feel like handling it, then don't. Many people don't handle their corns for the months they're in brumation, and it doesn't significantly affect behavior. A corn can't "go feral", because it's feral already. They are mellow by nature, but they cannot yet be considered domesticated.

Erm, shouldn't you be more worried about your girlfriend's reaction tha the snake's :twohammer

Meh, his girlfriend wouldnt even have to know... AND... HELLO LIL! Havn't seen you on snakechat for a while, where you been?
