How often

How often should I feed my 11 inch corn? I tried feeding him today but he just bit the pinkie and dragged it one time and the other he tried swollowing it whole but as you can guess it didn't work. Any suggestions when, how, and in what I should feed im in next. The pinkie looks kind of big though but thats the smallest they had.

Why wouldn't it work...LOL...I've seen 8 inch hatchling's swallow a live fighting pinkie whole...

I would suggest feeding him a f/t pink in a deli cup on papers towels...Since you stated it was alive and he didn't constrict, I would think the person you got him from fed f/t...Try that the next time you feed him...If you tried today and he didn't swallow it, I would say try tommorow since he definetly shows interest...

You can always try cutting it lengthwise if you think it's too thick for them to comfortable swallow. I would do that while it's still frozen and easy to cut, and then heat it up in a plastic bag in hot water.

Why do you put it in a plastic bag? The directions on the "Mice On Ice" box say to just drop one into a cup of hot water for ten minutes. I always pour it out onto a paper towel to make the mouse less wet for the feeding but if there is a reason to do it in a plastic bag, I'll change to that.

Placing the mouse in a bag before immersion helps retain the scent of the animal as opposed to washing it off with water. If your snake is eating without any problems, then your method is working fine. :)

hey everyone. i'm an avid snake lover nad i just purchased a baby cornsnake about 1 week ago. i've feed him once but i don't know how often i should feed him. any suggestions are welcome. if you'd like to send tips directly to me, do so at [email protected]

If you haven't already the Corn snake manual from Cathy love is a good book to start with. Based on your question i think you're pretty new at this. A book will tell you the basics of corn snake keeping (and perhaps more then that. i *still* wait for my book to arrive from Amazone.uk  )

As in you have other snakes, or as in, you like snakes but this is your first?
at any rate, 4-6 days is reccomended, you can search for "'corn snake' care sheet" and find lots of information, as a matter of fact, a lot of it is illegaly plagurized sections from various books, I think. Also get Kathy Love's book, IMO it's the best one.

Actually, I suggested the bag because after you've cut it lengthwise, it would be a little messy in the water. I figured it would keep it together a little better as well as retaining the scent.
