How strong are corn snakes?

I've just brought home the newest family member, a 6 year old Amel named Syn. She is very pretty, and so friendly! Anyways, the tank I brought her home in has a metal mesh lid, one side has a strip of metal on the inside the hooks under the plastic lip of the viv to it can't be lifted, but the other side just lifts right up. The guy I bought her from said in his 5 years of owning her she has never escaped, but I would be VERY nervous having a viv with a lid on it that was so easy to lift. I intend on getting some bungee straps to wrap around tomorrow to hold the lid down, as a temporary solution until I can get a viv with a locking lid. As an even more temporary solution until tomorrow, I have held down the side that can be pushed up with a big jar of screws, some paperweights and various knick knacks. Now, to me it feels very heavy, but I know how snakes are masters of escape so I'm wondering just how much weight they could lift straight up in an escape attempt. Does this sound like it should hold her until tomorrow? Further, are bungee cords an acceptable method for holding the lid on tightly? I am going to the pet store for a thermometer and a few hides (poor girl had none!) and would get some tank lid clips but the design of the lid makes the clips unusable. Do my solutions sound secure enough?

Sounds good. But remember these snakes will prove you wrong at every turn. They love to show you their latest trick of escaping the inescapable.

I heard they have about ten pounds of force. Don't remember where I heard it from, I think it was one of those "exotic pet" specials on PBS or something. I just assumed 10-15 pounds of force and use clamps that provide that much resistance.
He lives in a "locking" sterilite tote so there are four points of clip-age there to hold it down. I honestly don't know how to do it on a metal cage, when I had hamsters I bent paperclips to be latches but I don't know if that would work for snakes.

I have added several books in addition to the aforementioned until tomorrow. I think until I can afford a new Zilla I will wrap a bungee cord at each end and then a few books on top as well for good measure. I think that can counteract ten pounds of force!

Sounds like a good plan to me!
I honestly don't know if the ten pounds of force is right, but it certainly sounds reasonable for a corn snake.
