i was just wondering..i have a female that just layed and someone asked if i was going to double clutch her and to be honest i dont know the whole process on how to do it..i know the basics like she should be in good health..good weight and stuff like that....can someone explain it to me so i can decide if i want to cause i weighed her and after she layed her eggs she was still at 618 grams and i gave her a whole days rest before i fed her and shes eating like a champ again....please explain the whole double clutching to me..thanks

As far as I've found, a female either does or doesn't, and you don't have much say in it.

Having said that, you can get her in a good position to double-clutch. Make sure she regains her pre-laying body weight and condition as soon as possible after laying the first clutch. Try mating her again after she lays.

But to my mind, the tendency to double-clutching is something that's inherited. If the female came from a bloodline that double-clutches, then she's more likely to do it. If she comes from a bloodline that doesn't double-clutch, then all the tricks in the world won't make it happen.

Sounds like your girl is fit for another try though!

After she has her post-lay shed (probably about 2 weeks after she laid her clutch), start introducing her to the male just like you would after her post-brumation shed. And I would recommend that you either breed her to the same male or to one that will produce completely different offspring so that when they hatch, you can tell who the father is as females are much more likely to retain sperm to fertilize the eggs in the second clutch even if they get mated again.
