How to move cross country with snakes?

Hello all! I come to you with a potentially complex situation.

In a year or so's time I will be moving from Ontario Canada to Vancouver Island, clear across the other side of the country.
I hear all the time about people mailing reptiles in the USA and want to know if such an option is possible in Canada?
If so is there someone intimate with it I might be able to talk to, that you might know?

I am feeling rather stressed about it because driving is no longer an option for us and we have to fly. The cats will be flying in cargo, they have done it before.

The very last thing I want to do is rehome my snakes. I love them like little scaly children. I have one male and one female living separately, both will be about 2 when we move.

I definitely understand that your snakes are a part of your family and they need to stay with you. While I do not have experience moving with a snake (especially outside of the states) I found a resource that might be helpful....

This post deals with shipping snakes across Canada on an airplane: http://www.ssnakess.com/forums/general-discussion/46291-how-ship-canada.html

Best of luck! And as this is a big deal, it seems really smart you are getting an early start on this.

Do you have someone in Vancouver that you can ship them to, ahead of time, and then you can pick them up once you arrive?

@jagodzinski ahh thanks so much for the helpful resource! A pity the images are broken on the page. Its from 2002 so heres hoping its still current. It gives me a starting place to call (airline cargo) as I shipped pet rats once :)

@MysticExotics more than likely we would have family ship them to us when we had arrived there to receive them I think.

@MysticExotics I would like that too personally but I don't think they allow animals like snakes in the cabin with the people :(

I had snakes shipped twice from Saskatchewan to Manitoba with Reptile Express. They all arrived promptly the next day. Reptile Express will provide the kit for packing them and look after the courier/plane. I don't think you can do it in cold months though, so keep that in mind.

@Rigby & Marcy oh my god thankyou!! This helps so much, im glad such a service exists within Canada. I will be shooting them some emails with specific questions :)

Oh and yes we were planning spring or early autumn move for that exact reason. Don't want any of the animal children to be subjected to horrible temperatures which is a sad reality.

Isn't shipping them the same as you taking them on the plane with you? They're going to be flying either way...I'd look at what the cheaper option is.
