Our tap doesn't get that hot. Basically, the first thing I do (it's easier to do while still frozen) is slit the sides. Then, I'll get a small bowl and fill it with warm water, and put the food in to thaw. While that's thawing I start a small pot of boiling water. Once the pinky/mouse is thawed (takes a bit with lukewarm water) I "brain" it. Then I dunk for 3-5 seconds and it's ready to go. Plissken is such a timid picky eater. I actually have to leave him in a container with the pinky, cover the container completely, and walk away for a while.
