I have presently been using wet paper towel to increase humidity, but it dries fast so requires a lot of time checking. Don't get me wrong paper towel works great but would a sponge on top of the warm hide work better, stay wet longer, so less work? If so what type of sponge? Any special advice??

A bigger water dish and covering part of the viv with a towel would help.

You could also make a humid hide for your snake to use. I do this for my snakes and they love it. It is easy to make. Use a small Gladware container, cut a hole in the side big enough for your snake to get in, take a handful of damp paper towels (they do not need to be too wet) and put them in the container, put the lid on, put it in the viv.

Make sure you check it and rewet as necessary. Clean it and replace the paper towels every so often.

Building a humid hide for shedding will be rough to do, she's 5'+ feet long.
I am thinking more on steady humidity. I have been told it should be around 50% as a normal humidity????
 
Right now my humidity stays about 40%. That is fine. The only reason to raise it if they have trouble shedding. You could find a container big enough for your snake. Many people here use them for the big ones. You would be amazed how small of an space they can get into. Think about it. But if not some of the other methods work.

What should humidity be the rest of the time?
I get big swings in humidity due to electric heating, falls to 30% or less if I let it.

I think it is ok even if it falls to 30% as long as you give aid at shedding time.

The only real problem is having too high of humidity level. This can cause real problems.

I will really have to watch "Fang" my big girl as she is a snow so harder to see when getting ready to shed. Our Reverse Okeetee and Red stripped Amel should be very easy to see!
Also good to know that 30% is ok!!
