Humidity.. Just wondering...

Why is it that the recommended humidity rate is so low for corns? Their natural habitat tends to be the south right? I'm betting in the summers South Carolina's humidity is a bit higher than 30%.... and Florida...does the humidity EVER get that low there????

Just wondering :)

30% is low. I live in Southern California, and it's usually around 50% humidity. Actually, rightn now, it's 49%. You can cover a portion of the top of the cage to help keep humidity in, and mist when the snake is shedding.

C,

I know how to raise the level as I did in Arizona, but when I got mine five years ago, they were recommending the humidity level to be around 70%, but on another thread here they were recommending 30-40%. I didn't want to hijack the other thread, so thought I would ask the question in my own thread.

I think that the ideal humidity level is 40-50%. I live in southern IL about an hour away from St.Louis. Right now the humidity is about 50% here. IL is a humid state and I haven't had any problems with my snakes. The humidity gets alot higher then 50% around here sometimes. Cornsnakes are very hardy snakes and the humidity doesnt have to be right on the mark perfect. Out in the wild they dont have a controlled environment. Relax. Dont worry.

All I know is that my hygrometer says it is around 50 in the house... :bang:

I just checked the weatherbug and for where im at it says 63% humidity outside.

:grin01:
