Smile, you are alive!!
Hey guys- I posted this on a bp forum but so far, 8 people have viewed the post and nobody's replied. I know a lot of you have BP's so I was hoping one of you could help me out...

I bought a BP from a friend of mine and she gave him to me in class today. I brought him home and immediately put him in the viv I had set up for him. I know that it's recommended to leave him be for a couple of days to let him get acclimated and indeed, he quickly found his hide on the warm side and settled in. About 1 hour later, he explored a bit and settled into his cool hide. Now, about 6 hours later, he's out at the side of the viv moving around and watching me.

I know he's due for a feeding and I'm wondering if I should just leave him for the recommended couple of days or if I can try to feed him a rat and see if he takes it.

I have a corn and I fed my corn in the adjacent room today, maybe he smelled the mouse that my corn was eating and now he's hungry?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated..

Thanks all!

I'd say leave him for a couple days. Just remember: Ball Pythons are NOTORIOUSLY picky eaters. I have a male that goes on hunger strikes for no good reason. So don't get discouraged if he doesn't feed the first couple of times (mine fed once the day I got him, and then went the next month without).

I would definitely wait a few days before you try feeding him. What you might interpret as a hungry snake could just be him getting to know his new surroundings. Just leave him alone for at least a week, let him get settled in and then I would try feeding. It's not gonna hurt him in the least to go for a few days without eating.
Good luck with him!
