Hypo Motley with......

My Hypo Motley ( het unknown ) is looking for a male. The choices here in Thailand are a bit limited in particular for juveniles and adult corns.

Now I have been offered a Hypo Lavender ( het unknown ) and a Lavender het Bloodred.

Since I do not know the het(s) of the female what will be the better choice ?

I would prefer a Hypo Motley male or a Motley het Hypo or Bloodred or Hypo Bloodred or Bloodred Motley. However, I just can't find any of these here.

What should be the min. weight of the male for breeding ? The female is about 400 g....

Well I guess it depends on what you want in the first generation, and what you want in the second, etc...

Hypo motley x Hypo Lavender = Hypo het motley, lavender
(Hypo het motley, lavender x same will give a mix of hypos, hypo motley, hypo lavender, and hypo lavender motley)

Hypo motley x Lav het blood = Normals het hypo, motley, lavender, possible het blood.
(Het hypo, motley, lavender, blood x same will give a mixture of animals with those traits)

So I would say, if you're looking for something other than normals in the first generation, go with the hypo lavender.

If you're willing to wait and breed the offspring of the first generation to create a second generation, you'll get more variety starting with the lav het blood, but the babies will only be possible het bloodred so you will have to hold back more if you want to ensure (hope) to get some bloodreds.

And I think the minimum weight that a male has successfully bred is around 90 grams. It may have even been smaller. However, you do run the risk of a lower fertility rate when using a smaller/younger male, especially if you plan on using him with more than one female. But some smaller males can and will get the job done quite nicely!

That is also what I heard that the fertility rate might be low if the male is too small / young. Do you think a 200 g male is perfectly alright for a 400 g female ?

200 gram male for a 400 gram female is fine! Plenty big enough for the job.
