Hypo Okeetee?

Hey everyone,

Bought this girl as an okeetee but as she has gotten older the black has come in. She is about 18" now. I am thinking 'hypo okeetee.' I dont know the parents genetics though.

Check out serpenco's hyposerpenco - looks kind of like mine? What do you think? I am going to breed her with a ghost to prove her out.

Well, if you bought her as an okeetee she should have black anyway, right? Did she have thick borders when you bought her? Maybe she just isn't a top quality okeetee and it has taken awhile for borders to show up. Or perhaps the sellers just sold her as an okeetee for no good reason. Do you know the seller or can you ask about the parent's or lineage? There are several things to consider. Some better pics with a bit better lighting and maybe a full body shot would be helpful. I'm no expert at identifying some morphs (certainly not hypo-okeetees), but it was still difficult for me to get a good handle on what I was looking at with those pictures. Just tossing some thoughts out there...

Duh, I am an idiot- :blowhead: I meant to say that i bought her as an okeetee but the black HASN'T showed up. When she was a hatchling she was bright orange but still no black. I just figured it would show later. She is over a year old now and no sign. The other weired thing is her belly- seems like a lot of orange encroaching on what should just be black checkering? Thanks for the suggestions on better pics- i will try again. I am a pretty crappy photographer!

To me... your snake just looks like a nice normal. However youre right, pairing her with your ghost will prove if he is infact hypo. I don't really feel that you'll have an answer about hypo until then.

As for the borders having not come in yet? That is not how it works with Okeetee's they are born with their thick borders and they keep their thick borders.

This is a picture of my Abbotts Okeetee that is just a month old, notice the thick black borders, its the vivid colors that will come in with age

This is a female Okeetee that will be the future mate to the above snake that is 18 months old. (notice how her colors have come in and should be getting more vivid yet as she grows more)

Thanks for the input. I know that typical okeetee's are born with the black saddles- this girl was so unique looking that i had to get her. She has never looked like a 'normal' or really an 'okeetee' from day one. The place i bought her from assured me that she was okeetee- i questioned the lack of black at that time.
Anyways we will see what happens when i test her out.

Thanks again,

It's possible that it is an Okeetee based on locality rather than what has come to be known as the "looks" of an okeetee.

Regardless its a great looking snake.

Best of luck to you with the breeding trials, you'll have to keep us up to date with what the results are.
