I am completely fed up with Flexwatt

Good thing you posted to begin with. Thanks! Good luck on the marriage. Be sure to keep your knees loose during the ceremony. Lock 'em up and you could go down.

LOL. YUP! Seen that too many times! :)

Good luck on getting your flexwatt to work. Good luck on your marriage too!

well the way back heat works better for arboreal is that the tub can be close to the heat but still have a gap. the tape would be at say 96 like you said. so you have that side of the tub really close to 96. have a perch that runs perpendicular to the heat source. that way they snake can move around on the perch and thermo-regulate. its heats that wall closest to the flex watt. and since its not just under a third of the bottom of the tub its behind the whole tub so it would create more heat evenly through the tub. hope this explanation helps. if you cant get this to work you could try ceramic heat emitters for the time being. since your in a busy point in your life. good luck with the wedding and all of that.

I actually got the flexwatt to replace the use of a CHE because it uses significantly less power and should be more versatile with the setup I have. Hopefully the back heat will work, but if it turns out that nothing is working well enough I might try back heat with 11" flex instead.

I can tell you right now that a single strip of 4” isn’t going to work for back heat. You will definitely need 11”. One 100 watt light bulb will not heat a room. It’s all about wattage.

I didn't figure 1 line of 4" would do back heat, so I'm going to try 2 lines of it and see how it goes for a night.

Other than the fact that 11" covers more area than 4", why would it be better? You said wattage is what matters, but if either size can reach its maximum safe temperature why would it be any different? Meaning that if 20wpf 11" flexwatt reaches 95 degrees just like the 8wpf 4" stuff does, why would it heat any better?

It is the same difference as a candle and bon fire. They both burn at the same temperature but one is putting out more heat than the other.

I concur that 4" Flexwatt is probably not going to be sufficient nor distributive enough for anything other than a shoe box for heating purposes. That is why I switched to 11" Flexwatt for my sweater boxes. Also, there is a difference in wattage between some 4" flexwatt, that also might be your problem.

Unfortunately, I have to agree with Wade in that it's not the flexwatt that is the problem, it's your usage of it.

Perhaps this link that I posted last year on one of my rack projects using flexwatt might help give you ideas on better and safer usage.

Good luck!
