hey everyone, i am pretty new on here i found this site as i was searching about info on cornsnakes...i should be getting my first corn snake saturday if everything goes as planned...i will be getting an adult male corn from petco, i cant wait! does anyone have any advice? this will be my first snake i've read up alot on corns but i am sure there is always more to learn...

welcome!

Welcome to the forums! You will learn a lot here and the people are very helpful and friendly. This is a great place to get to know other corn snake enthusiasts as well as learn about all the different facets of the hobby you probably have not even considered.
Now, my first bit of advice....be careful when purchasing snakes or other reptiles from petco. While some petcos have knowledgeable staffs and healthy reptiles, others seem to be clueless about proper husbandry and will not only sell sickly animals, but distribute false information as well. If Your local petco is one of the good ones, then go for it! (2 of my 16 corns are from petco) Otherwise I would strongly reccomend going through a local breeder/hobbyist or through one of the large and reputable breeders that can be found on line and can ship right to you. They have many different morphs and are very helpful. Hope this was a help to you. Good luck with your new obsession! (trust me, this IS an obsession) :)

Hi there and Welcome! You're right there is still a lot to learn but thats the best part of it all. Infact you cease to live if you ever stop learning. People around here are really friendly and are always eager to share their knowledge. Have fun and good luck!

Welcome to the site!!!!!!!! There is a lot of information here. Be sure to read the FAQ section in the forums. They answer a lot of questions.
There are a lot of great people here. Everybody is always willing to help.

You may want to try to find a breader or reptile show to get your corn. I have heard and noticed that Petco can be expensive. I have heard but not seen that some of their snakes are sickly and have mites.

yea i've heard bad stuff bout petco and their prices are waaaay too high but i fell in love with the one they had, i used to be like really scared of snakes but ever since i seen that one i've been really in to them, i feel really drawn to him and i dont feel that way with the others i've seen, sounds weird but yea...my parents are getting him for me for my 18th birthday :)

Hi and welcome to the forum.
Concrats on getting a corn, great pets, you'll love it but as stated beware of some information you receive from petco or petsmart or whatever.

Here are a few links that I collected from this this that will help you on your way. And get Kathy Love book. It's a must have.
Good Luck

okay well i got the snake today and everything was going fine at first, i held him again at the pet store and he kept tryin to wrap himself around my waist lol then he tried going in to my purse and we brought him home and he seemed really scared of me when i opened the box to take him out and i didnt pick him up cause i thought for sure he was gonna try to bite me so i just put the box in the cage and let him go out and i havent tried to hold him since, he seems really scared of me and when i put my hand near him he watches my hand, is that normal? i heard your supposed to leave them alone for a couple of days to let them get used to their new home but i dont know i just hope he isnt gonna be like this when i do try to hold him, also another thing is he watches me constantly when im in the room, if i move around he moves his head to watch me i dont know if hes doing that because hes scared of me or what...

No offense, but if you could break up your posts with shorter sentences and paragraphs, it'd be much easier to read.

On topic, it's normal for him to be wary of you and watch your hand. In the wild, birds eat snakes, so they can be scared of things coming down from above. Just be gentle, but firm. Don't be scared of him...even if he bites, it won't hurt as much as you'd think. Just go for it and let him know he's going to be held no matter what.

candachan's rite.if you just let itr settle in it will be ok.when handling be sure to make yur movments slow and smooth so as not to alarm him.also candachan!that is one awsome pic?what snake is it?
