I am such a newbie in the snake world!

So this morning I found my little snake's complete shedded skin laying in his tank. I didn't even know he was getting ready to shed. I didn't notice his eyes being cloudy or anything :/ But I have been leaving him alone as much as possible because I just bought him and I am letting him settle in before bugging him.

I am glad he was able to have a good shed, and that there were no problems. I even checked that the eye parts had come off with the skin.

I was even able to find out how long he is (18 inches)! haha

Oh sorry there was a point to this post! He hasn't fed since last Friday and I am wondering if I should wait a bit longer until I try to feed him because of the shedding?

They are usually hungry after a shed. I'd feed him anytime. Also measuring the shed skin will not give you an accurate length of the snake because the skin stretches as they shed it.

Thanks for the help, he ate that pinky pretty darn quick! Though, he did eat it tail first, which I dont think with a pinky should be a problem because their legs are so soft, but how would I prevent that in the future?

When I fed him I used the feeding tongs to hold the mouse by the back end and used them to show my snake the mouse. But he didnt show any interest. Eventually the mouse fell and my snake still showed no interest, but he was moving around the box and bumped into the mouse, looked startled, then just grabbed it in him mouth and ate it tail first. He didn't strike and constrict it like I have seen on youtube feeding videos.

But he ate it, and he seems happy (he zooming around his tank now) so I guess it was a successful feeding!

When I first got mine, and she had her first shed with me, I got excited measuring, thinking it was going to let me know how big she is, until I learned soon after it doesn't mean that's how long the snake actually is.
Mine doesn't strike and coil, either. Some do, some don't. Oh, normally Sarabi always eats hers butt first. I don't know why. Silly snakes. :)
