Ive been feeding my baby ghost corn snake one f/t pinkie mouse once every week. The petstore said he was about 5 months (which would mean he hatched in December) I'm not sure bit i think he is a little small for his age (about 11 inches What do you think? Is he a little small for 5 months?)
Should I feed him more or is one f/t pinkie mouse fine.

here he is next to a penny

and here is him taking on one of the f/t pinkies

How big of a lump does the pinkie leave in his tummy after he's eaten? Can you see a lump at all?

Also, how quickly does he digest?

If you can't see much of a lump after feeding, or if it's gone very quickly, I would say that he's ready for a bigger meal. :)

its a pretty tiny lump you can see it but you have to look. He is usually almost done digesting in abour 24 hours. I dont know what to do to get bigger pinkies. I get them from petco and they are just called gourmet rodents ad they arent in a see though bag. I guess ill check some more petstores. I think there is one around here that kills their own pinkies and freezes them.

:]
thankyou.

I don't mean bigger pinkies - I mean it may be time for you to start feeding your snake fuzzies ;)

You should be able to buy mice which have been frozen in varying stages of their lives. It goes something like this: (varies slightly depending on what they are called in different places...)

Pinkies
Fuzzies
Hoppers / Small Adults
Medium Adults
Large adults
X-Large adults

That's what they're called where I live, anyway. Try getting some fuzzies next time.

im kinda nervous about feeding him one lol

I bought Gaia in February and was told she was a late 2006 hatching. Right now she is eating 3 f/t pinkies every seven days. She's 23 grams and 19 " just before this last shed.

When they are still that small you can feed more frequently, like every 5 days.

The fuzzy or pinky should be no more then 1.5x the girth of your snake at it's thickest point.

I think I'll feed him two pinkies or three like the other person does and eventually move up to a fuzzy once a week.

He is short for his age I guess. lol

I get my "snake food" from RodentPro and I am waiting on an order. The 3 f/t mouse pinkies do not really leave a lump in Gaia and I have noticed that there is very little poop so she must be using almost 100% of the food. I ordered rat pinkies because their size spans both peach fuzzies and fuzzies. Hopefully I won't be left with a lot of rat pinkies when she moves up to the next size. Right now she still has 20-30 mouse pinkies left. I'm hoping they'll be good for my next baby. I'm having all the snakes sexed in two weeks so If Gaia is a boy my next baby will be a girl; if Gaia is a girl then the next baby will be a boy. I just have to decide what morph I want to breed with her/him.

Don't worry right now about his length - he'll shoot up real fast. I think Gaia grew 3" this last shed.

wow cool. I think he is even thinner since I got him and i know he has gotten longer. So i think its time to up the feeding.

:] snake babieeessss!!

Incase anyone wants an update, I tried feeding him two he dident want the second so I'm switching him to one pinkie every 4 days until he is big enough for fuzzies :]

That's fine.

Do a search because there is a great feeding plan somewhere on this site.

But a single pink every 4-5 days is fine. I guess Gaia is just a growing girl. When one pink wasn't giving her a lump I went up to two and then three. Every snake is different. Be guided by your snake. Just because Gaia takes three at one meal doesn't mean your's will and it doesn't mean anything is wrong with him.

Smokey, our 8 yr old Snow corn, will eat only one adult mouse whereas Konig, the 6 yr old Banded King snake, will eat two mice and a chick at one sitting. Konig is just a pig whereas Smokey is finicky.

:] we'll see how he likes this.
Thanks for the tips and i will deff. look for that feeding plan. :)

You can also try peach fuzzies, which is the size between pink and fuzzy, Basically a very small fuzzy/large pink.

I weighed Gaia two weeks ago and she was 23 grams. Last week I weighed the 3 pinkies and they came to 6 grams. This week when I feed her she was 27 grams so she gained 4 grams in two weeks.

To me, the best way to know what is going on with your snake and their feeding is by weighing. A kitchen scale goes about $15. Try weighing your baby and feed according to the plan. It is on the thread "How big, or old,,do you change the feeding.." It's in the Health Issues/Feeding Problems section.

This should help you.
