I feel so bad!

So I have had my first corn death and I can't help but blame myself. My first baby pipped last night and came out of the egg this morning. He was feisty and a beautiful normal. I felt I had secured him well in his little tupperware home. When I got back from work he had popped the top and slithered into the circuit board of the incubator and electricuted himself. I know I don't post much here but I know that everyone loves their snakes on here and I don't have many friends who understand how horrible I feel about this little creature. I just wish I could rewind the day. I have purchased more secure containers this evening but for that little one I was too late. Thank you for providing a place that I feel supported even if I receive no responses. This site has really helped me through the years with my snakes and today it has helped in my mourning. If anyone has any suggestions on how to make sure this doesn't happen again please feel free to comment.

Yikes. Sorry to hear about that.

Cover whatever is exposed stuff with electrical tape and that should do the trick. Maybe turn it off so that YOU don't get electrocuted. It doesn't seem good to have exposed wiring that anything could get electrocuted on, and I'm glad it was a pippie that drew this to your attention and not your finger. Good luck!

Sorry to hear about your poor baby . Its good you know there is a place where people will understand your loss.
I am just glad that you were able to discover a problem with your hatchling tubs and the circuit board before they were all out and possibly more than the one lost.

Thank you for the support. I'm sorry for the losses a few of you have had. It is a powerless place when you lose an animal and you felt you were doing everything right.
Thanks for the suggestions about the tape. The circuitry is all encapsulated in a plastic box, but there are holes to allow the thermostat to register. Your comment about tape gave me an idea to try to reduce the holes with some tape just in case.:idea:

Get some screen and tape the screen over the holes. That way, air can still get in and out but pippies definitely can't. You can buy it at hardware stores, but unfortunately it comes in a big roll. Even so, it isn't very expensive--maybe 6 dollars or so.

Iwould love to post the pictures of my hatchlings but my camera is so horrible. There are 5 normals hatched already and 7 more to go. The mother is a beautiful ghost with a heart on her head and some of the babies got that. The father is a large (5.3 ft ) amel. I am not really good with the names of different patterns corns have but I do believe the babies are motleys because they have the spots down their back. If I get a better camera I will share the pics.

Yep,sounds like motley to me...You can also have a look at the bellies,motley's dont have any "checkers" pattern on the belly...
Usually a sure fire sign i believe...

Share your baby pic anyway, regardless of the camera. My first photos were the pits, but people still appreciated them.

I hope you'll post occasionally about your new babies. I can really feel for you, as I have eggs pipping, too. Posting here with all the supportive people should help ease the pain.

I had a hatchling slip away from me a few days ago......he shot underneath a rack and was to quick for me to retreive him. I have yet to find him.

So i have borrowed a good camera and wanted to share the pics of the parents. The first two are dad and the last is mom. He is push 5 feet 4 inches. big guy. I have had three more babies and I got my first and only ghost. Total will be 12 normals and one ghost.

The dad's eyes are a light tanish amber color.
