I got lucky with my new roommate...

Smells Like a Rat
So, my roommate and best friend on campus went abroad for this coming semester, and the school went ahead and filled the vacancy in my room. So, of course, I email the new roommate asking if she would mind the snakes, because I would never want somebody to have to live with an animal they're afraid of. I told her "Do not be afraid to say no; I can board them with someone if they make you uncomfortable."

Her response?

She loves reptiles! She worked in the fish and reptile house and the Milwaukee Zoo. No problems with dead mice in the freezer and can't wait to meet the snakes. How cool is that? She also seems to share my taste in TV, likes coffee (I LOVE coffee) and is pretty easy going like me.

I was really dreading getting a new roommate, but I think this will work out just fine. :) Considering we were put together at random, this is pretty cool!

It sounds like you got very lucky. I'm glad they found you someone, even though randomly who appears to share some of your interests.

Lucky you, when my roommate saw my snake she flipped out and complained to the RA -__-

Now I never stay in my room, I stay in my boyfriend's apartment with my snake.

Thats definitely sweet. I am still bf's with one of my old college roommates who was also a random pick.

Right on! It's always awesome to randomly meet someone else who loves herps :). Glad everything worked out for you.

You are very lucky! I never got along with any of my randomly selected roommates. The one from Saudi Arabia was freaked out that I had a frog in the room...I couldn't imagine if I had snakes at that time. But the kid from Korea kept the room hot enough that I wouldn't have needed UTHs. So, I moved in with my girlfriend, in the girls dorm, for 2.5
semesters.

I read the title of this thread and got the wrong impression...too early to be awake, LoL! Congrats on the cool new roomie!

That's very lucky and awesome! I had a roommate last semester that was terrified of snakes, but said that as long as I kept them from sight, she would be okay. An easy compromise. :}

And ahaha, Wade. Repped!

My dorm and RA were very strict on the no animals rule, so I don't know how any of my roomies would have fared with snakes. I did not have the best of luck on roomies. The first one left after a month because our neighbors were too loud for her. Her replacement was alright, she might have liked the snakes she was a nature-y type person. My second year roomie reminded me of the over-achiever do-gooder popular preppy type kids back in high school. We got along well enough, but didn't click. Needless to say I was very happy to get my own apartment.
