I got my snake

Paradox

Insane reptiphile
She's a cute little normal. Just over 1 month old, she's about 7-8 inches long. I have her in a small tank at the moment, with all the nececary stuff.

The problem is, the air temperature here is 82 degrees, so there is no warm or cold side. It's all warm. Can't think of a lot to do about it really. Any advice?

She has a solid feeding record, and is due for food tomorrow. Fingers crossed she keeps it up. She's due for a shed soon as well, so it should be an exciting first week!

I'll probably move her into the large tank in a couple of weeks time, when she's calmed down and acclimatised. I'll post some pictures tomorrow or Monday.

Where is the pic? hehe. As for the temps, try to put the viv away from windows and maybe in a cooler room in the house. I think you should be fine with that temp. I took an old heat rock (I cut off the cord and put electrical tape over the cut cord) and put it into the viv. That way they have the option of laying on that if they need to cool off. You could use any rock though, I just happened to have that laying around. Providing plenty of hides also helps so they can pick a spot if they need to. Hope this helped!

Oh don't worry, I have a HUGE collection of toilet roll tubes here :grin01:

And I have some small rocks around, but nothing substantial...

You do realize that when you move her, you'll need to let her go through another whole acclimatization period, don't you? If it were me, I'd just put her into her permanent home straight away. That way, she'll only have to acclimitize once.

I am aware of that yes, but we also need to finalise the set up for the electrics for the large viv, so it's easier to keep her in the small tank.

Well, it's feeding day. Are there any specific times that are better for the snake? Also, to thaw it, is it ok to put the feeding tub in the tank while it defrosts? Might wake the little girl up at last anyway :crazy02:How long should I leave the pink to thaw for?

Also, as a matter of interest for you, I saw her at a local reptile show. It was one of those 'Love at first sight' things. I hadn't planned on buying that day, but at only £25 (They were about £80 in the pet shop) I had to buy the cute little girl. My first snake and I'm already intot eh habit of going into shows with money and coming out with a snake :grin01:

Didnt see this posted so wanted to add that if you have a light in the viv, turn it off so it won't get too hot...

Congrats on the baby and yea, where's the pictures!!! :crazy02:

I'll get some pics when I feed her ;) And no there's no light in her viv. Bit worried about the humidity now as well. It's been rising all morning, and has got up to 65. What sort of level is something to worry about?

Ok, the food is in and defrosting. I'm guessing I leave it for about an hour? Slightly nervous about this, but fingers crossed she'l eat it.

well im not sure what a GOOD humiditity level is. I keep mine around 40-50. I do know that if the humiditity is low (25 or under) while they are in the process of shedding the shed will not come out complete or nice at all. So that humiditity might be fine or might not. :wavey:

Thanks for the advice, the humidity is dropping now anyway :)

She just woke up and had a drink, she seems lively and active. She has a lovely pattern. She's hiding under the water bowl now. Not long before I'm going to try her with the pinky. I'm slightly apprehensive, but she has a solid record so far...

I thaw pinkies in hot tap water for about 5-10 minutes. Just make sure it is completely thawed before offering it to her.

My corns usually stay at ambient humidity, and they do fine.

I am going to ask a dumb question here just for MY knowlege- how do you KNOW it is totally thawed?

Paradox- congrats on your baby girl. I too, am expecting a beautiful baby girl sometimes soon. I'll await pics of yours as well. :)

It's been in there for about 30 mins-1 hour, she hasn't taken it. She went back under the bowl a while ago, and hasn't come out. Don't want to disturb her really. I don't know what to do.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong (I'm here to learn) but aren't you suposed to thaw it out before to place it in the cage? I mean its like a human trying to eat a still frozen steak.

A lot of corns won't eat if their mouse isn't very warm. Think of it this way, a live mouse is up there around 101 or 102 degrees body temp. You can tell when its defrosted when, and I know this sounds gross, but its when you can squish the head and feel the skull give in. As far as I've seen, the head/brain is the last thing to defrost.
