I was browsing around at a local pet store down the street yesterday and came across their feeder bin. Normally, all you ever see is white albino mice. I saw these 2 and they were just too cute! (I will deny ever having said that too!) Coincidentally, they are a male and a female... so it looks like I will have another go-round with breeding. This time, I'm more excited to see what kind of babies they produce. The last time I bred, I just used white mice so it wasn't really exciting.

I have no idea what kind they are. They cost me all of $3 for the pair. The pics aren't that great because they were off my camera phone. The male is a fawn brown with splashes of white, and the female looks like a grey/sable/white colored brindle with black eyes. :shrugs: So if anyone can tell what they are from these horrible pics, that would be nifty to know. True to my naming problem, they've been christened Gadget (male) and Gidget (female). Yeah yeah I know... "how original." Hey at least its not Lunch and Dinner. ;)

Just looking at them makes me wanna cry! Especially the pic of the female! Not because we feed them to the snakes, but because my brother's cat ate my gerbil while I was at school yesterday! I loved him! And the female is sitting like he always would when I would hold him! His name was Sticky in case you wondered anyone... Okay...I'll go mope elsewhere now....

i see a puppy back there. :p Sorry couldn't hepl saying that :sidestep:

At least you got lucky and found some really cute feeders:). I was given the wrong size (new kid) and so ended up with a pet white mouse and today we had to get him a girlfriend. Talk about SUCKER, thats mama me:). So I am now the proud owner of Ying and Yang-white lab mice LOL
I like your little brindle female.

Do not get attached to your feeders! They are not cute, they are just food for snakes. Yeah right, who am I kidding :grin01:

I have lots of "keepers" But yeah I have some of those as adults now. The three with the T shape on there head were all kept I know that. As were a few others from that batch as far as I know.

Yes you do! That's Baby, matriarch leader in my "Herd o' Yorkies." She's just waiting for me to drop that mouse too.

Wow... How old are we now Joe, 16? Mike, wanna take care of my lightwork?

Well, as if that wasn't bad enough... couldn't help it. This is Digit. *shakes head* I really need to just save my money for a straight-jacket and convert my office at home into a padded room.

then you could close the door and bounce around, padded rooms are fun. hehehe :santa:

This is why I don't breed my mice for food... they're sooooo darn cute!! I'd see them born, see them grow up.. yeah... no way in heck was I gunna feed them to my snakes!! Plus they always ended up with names after like.. 45 minutes. There are 17 kids in the house where my breeding business is LOL... it gets hard to sell them when you have a 3 year old staring at you crying like mad cause you want to sell little Timmy mouse. (This is why my ex runs the "Mouse House" now... plus the kids started calling me Mommy.. yeah... that sucked when we broke up  ) I like the frozen ones... from freezer to defrosting cup to snake.. no looking at them required... cept when one won't eat *taps foot at Hunter* and you have to flush the poor mousey *sniffs* and its sooo cute and died for no reason :sobstory:

I like the frozen ones too, but that's just because I really have no patience for breeding my own. I think getting them for feeder breeders was just an excuse to take them home, especially considering I just put in a huge bulk order, and my deep freezer is full of mice. :shrugs: I won't have a problem feeding them off though. The parents are the one's I'll get attached to, not the babies (That's my story and I'm sticking to it! It will not change it will not change!)

Eh, I could always give them away to all the children of my gynormous family for Christmas... I'm sure everyone would love that! I'll just keep a few around for those stubborn little ones who need a live pinkie to get started.

Jynx...they are very cute! I am currently up to 10 colonies of mice and definitely have my favorites. It is very easy to become attached to them.

I have toyed with the thought of breeding mice for food, but I just can't do it. I always bred mice and gerbils when I was younger, they are just too darn cute. I just got my very first fuzzy out of the freezer for Whitesnake.... He (well, I think he's a she now actually) has been on pinkies up until today... I could hardly stand feeding them, but when I unwrapped the fuzzies two mins ago... wow... All different colours and patterns... just like I used to breed. I was actually sittin there tellin myself how cute these lil (not to mention FROZEN) fuzzies were... I don't know... I hate feeding them to my corn... They are way too cute. Maybe if I just got plain old white ones or something it would be better. Oh well... I'll probably break down and buy a couple pairs knowing me... I'm just afraid if I do that I won't have it in me to feed the babies to that darn snake of mine, lol.

I just do not see how any one can get attached to feeder mice or rats. Maybe it's just because when I was a kid, my brother and I raised rabbits as food. I got over seeing the nice pretty rabbits being dressed out which I had to do myself. So I taught myself feeders are feeders and pets are pets. To only like the pets. Now if I could teach it to my wife and daughter I would be a happy man. They still think cute mice are cute.
