When using aspen how do u heat the snake cage...like when ur using a heating pad if the snake touched the glass it could cause burns..how does everyone do it that uses aspen?....

you're heat pad should never get hot enough for you to really feel it, much less burn the snake. If so, then you need to look into a dimmer/rheostat for it, or even better a thermostat. They sale them at petstores. You need to get you a thermometer and see how hot that place is getting if you can feel it through the glass. Once you get that dimmer and get your temps right, you shouldnt have to worry about burns.

Hey Jay, I haven't use aspen yet either but maybe a you can put a few folded paper towel in viv above uth then cover with aspen and also a rheostat to help control temps from burning. just a thought.
Good Luck :)

I've used paper towel taped to the bottom of the viv, but now I've mounted all my UTH's to a piece of 5 X 7 glass from a cheap picture frame and put that under the viv. Not only can I move it if I change the viv, but the glass keeps the UTH from direct contact with the bottom of the viv. Works great.

If you use heat pads at the proper temps you won't need paper towels.
I would think the towels under the aspen would get soiled to quickly and thus outweigh any benefits of using them.
