I have an escapee!

PnyKlr

World's Tallest Midget
After the most rotten morning where every tiny thing that could have gone wrong did (laptops not running programs, computers not running programs, 25 tween-agers sitting in a library not doing their work, smashing my finger with a stapler...twice) I get back to my room during 2nd hour to hear a student say that a critter is missing.

My heart skipped a beat as I ran to the cage to look for C.S. (the huge amel), but he was there *whoohoo*. It turns out that the class hamster is now a fugitive. This does not bode well for the little guy (girl actually) because not only is this a big school to get lost in, but it is also pretty darn cold outside.

Not looking for advice or anything...I just needed to complain about my own personal series of unfortunate events.

Damn Murphy's Law.

Sorry to hear about your troubles. I sincerely hope things begin to look up for you the rest of the day. Here, have a cold one on me to help ya out a little. Just don't drink too many because we all know what comes next. :puke01: lol.

Just look at it this way. If the amel ever escapes, he may have a dinner waiting on him. :crazy02:

Yeah, I know exactly how she got out. The cage she is in is a donated cage that has all those tubes and attachments. The wheel attachment (hangs on the outside) has a nut and bolt assembly that fell apart (the nut loosened up somehow and fell off). This cause the wheel to separate and the hamster to run free.

I have just found a screw driver so that I can take the furnace cover off.

Wish me luck.

I see - eek! Hamsters are just incredible at getting in to the funniest places though, so leave no stone unturned - I once had a hamster get inside the stone fireplace and we had to literally dismantle the entire hearth. :eek1:

I am honestly happy, though, that it was the hamster and not the snake. I would be devastated...not to mention I work with a bunch of snake-haters.

rofl... Sorry, I just got a mental image of the expression on the "snake haters" faces if you had to tell them about an escaped snake. :eek1:

My hammy has been found...in the radiator system! She wasn't in the heater/blower itself, but in the cover around the pipe that runs to it.

She is alive and well (she came looking for the bait I had left her, so I spotted her as I was removing the pieces), and I'll have to thank the teacher who had this room last year who told me about her gerbil's favorite hiding spot.

This is the email I sent to the school:

Good Morning Everyone!

After the horrendous morning I have just had of everything going wrong, I have a favor to ask of all of you. I noticed 2nd hour that I have an escapee. To all of you who don't like/hate snakes...

...don't worry, he is still locked in his cage (with 3 locks, by the way).

My black bear hamster escaped sometime last night (I am assuming). My room has been turned upside down, with no sign of her (although there are bits of furniture that I can't move; you know the whole 6 foot tall bookshelf is a little hard to move on your own). I highly doubt any of you will ever see the hamster, but if you do find her, I'm the one she belongs to.

P.S. I did check, and no, the snake didn't eat the hamster...but he wanted to, I'm sure.

I then had many emails saying "I'm glad the snake was locked up" and one who actually complimented me on the email. She said she was yelling at the computer until she read that the hamster got out and not the snake! :grin01:

That is just too funny!!! I have snakes, mice, rats, scorpions, a tarantula, and a few others that aren't your normal pets so I hear it all of the time.

I understand when people have an instinctual fear of something, but the clinging to that fear instead of being open to facts about these beautiful creatures that would calm those fears always bothers me. Especially in an environment where learning and growing is supposed to be upheld.

I am really happy that you found the hamster and wish you the best of days for the rest of the day. Sure looks like things are already looking up. :)

I would have to agree, my day is starting to look up. My fingers don't hurt any more (and no, the stapler isn't smashed), the laptops now run the programs, and my hamster has been found. I think I forgot to mention that BOTH copiers went down this morning, and they have both been fixed.

I will be heading to the store to get some small rats to feed C.S. today, too. The teacher who was yelling at the computer has asked if she could see him eat. The kids are all amped to watch him take down a rat, and I asked her if she wasnted to see because her prep hour falls during the hour I'm going to feed (I'm making sure every class gets to watch). C.S. has a VERY good feeding response that makes everyone in the room jump when he strikes. I get a bit of a kick out of it. I'm just glad he didn't try to make a meal of the hamster!
