I need some help with my rheostate

I know the difference between a rheostate and a thermostate so please do not inform me again. http://www.proexotics.com/store/product_image.php?imageid=172 This is the rheostate that i bought and have my UTH plugged into. Even though it is at the lowest setting on the rheostate the tank will still get up to 95 on the hot side. i have a thermometer probe right over the UTH on the inside of the tank. i have been using a ceramic lamp but it will range from about 75-77 at night and 77-80 during the day and i understand that belly heat is better but with the temp getting up to 95 im not risking burning my snake. I took it apart to see if there was a way i could adjust the gears and there isnt. Any one have any idea why it is not working like it should.
Thanks
Cassie

I do turn the lamp off and let it cool before i turn on the UTH. I would like to know how to adjest the one i already have if anyone knows how. Im in college, unemployed, and would like to try and save as much money as possible

Take Lennys suggestion, I've made and use 4 of those with no negative results, all for about 10.00 each.

To be honest, I look at that brand and it just look cheap to me so if you have it at it lowest setting. That's it. But another thing you could to is maybe play around with adding things inside , above the uth, like tile or but not as good layers of papers. But like I said before..build your own. I did and I like it. A part time job would help too.

Ya i know i have been trying like crazy but i just keep getting little temp jobs that barely pay for rent and bills. Im also in an institute so it a little more work than regular college.

This just sat a little bit sideways with me. Have you ever been to "regular college"? People in "regular college" have plenty of work too.

Yes i was in a community college and the full time and didnt have as much of a workload as i do now and i have less classes. I understand that college period is ruff but im trying to get a BA in 4 years instead of 8.

Am I missing something or shouldn't a B.A. take 4 years? I got a B.S. in 4 years. That's the amount of time it's supposed to take.

I went to community college first, then a university. CC was so easy I laughed once I got into a university. There is a HUGE difference between the two. I barely studied in CC, but I couldn't study enough in Uni, especially once you get the basic classes out of the way.

Either way, I would try building your own rheostat. Personally, I made one and it sucked. They fluctuated so much with the changing ambient temperatures in my condo that it was ridiculous. One day I came home to a heat mat that was 115 degrees, even though the rheostat was set to the lowest setting. So I quickly tossed that out and bought a $20 thermostat instead, much better for my piece of mind thats for sure!

I'm in the same situation, I purchased a zoomed rheostate and even at its lowest setting the temp of the glass is 95*F. What I did was pile more aspen over the UTH allowing my corn to burry himself to a heat he desires. He seems to love it as he is always hiding under his drift wood, which is above the UTH
