Ok, so I was talking to two girls at work during break. I was telling them about getting my new boa and they wanted to know how you take care of them and stuff. Then this new guy (18 or so?) came up to me because he heard me talking about snakes...the retarded conversation that followed boiled down to, he has a baby retic. python, it eats live mice...he doesn't care that it's dangerous, he leaves them alive in with the snake for DAYS and nothing bad happens...and now that I told him how big his snake is going to get, what is he going to do? (yeah, he didn't know...even though he got it from a BREEDER) He's not going to keep it that long! He'll just get another baby...like last time...cause he gets them cheap from this breeder guy (who obviously needs a swift kick in the @$$)! I think my face actually turned red...I tried to be nice at first but then he kept talking...LOL. "My friend has a boa that eats live rabbits!" Good thing I don't carry a gun.... :twoguns:

Anyway, I think I'm going to print him out a caresheet for retics....it's the only thing I can think of to save the poor thing. If it wasn't a retic I'd buy it from him, but I can't handle a snake that big...I have too much respect for them. If he thinks I'm a bitch...well, I think he's a moron, so we're even. :)

I wish I could start a rescue, but I'd just end up with all kinds of retics, burms, and iguanas! And as much as I love them, my house is too small

Ummm, he seems like a show off, i think you've gotta make it look like no-body cares! then he will shut up! Give him a smack from me, and read your pms :p ive been messaging you - muahaha

I don't care how retarded he acts, I just want that poor snake to have a better life :(

Really? I don't have any messages :shrugs: Maybe it takes a while. Otherwise, [email protected]

Wow.... i don't know what you could do.. mabey have a conversation with this breeder about who hes selling them to. But thats my thought

TBH i would ring pet rescue, even if he doesent have the snake, its worth it aint it? he might just be lieing to look good, or mabie he generally is a cruel pig :( the message basically said:

Hiya thanks for letting me use your pictures in my video, the more pictures and videos people put up the better the video will look and hopfully we will have some new members of our community too, do you have any more vids of pics i can use?

What a jerk! Sadly there are so many out there! What does he do with the snakes once they get big I wonder? He probablys set them loose. This makes it bad for all of us in the hobby. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

I've met a few people like this. They shouldn't be allowed to pollute the gene pool.

That guy sounds like he has no sense of responsibility whatsoever. As for buying the animal, while it's still small, is there any possibility of buying it from him now and moving it on? Maybe put some feelers out now, if you know the guy is willing to sell it, and secure a buyer so you can move the animal straight on when it comes in to your hands. Rigmarole I know, but you sounded like you'd buy it if you could, so I'm just making a suggestion.

First I'd ask around to see if I could line up a new possible home for it. then try and talk him into giving it to me. Maybe put a bug in his ear about how big that sucker is going to get and how much of a hassle it will be to have...maybe throw some of the latest news articles about large snakes strangling their owners on his desk....

In the past, I've bought or been given reptiles by people who did not want them anymore. Usually, they would buy the reptile for their child and the child would grow bored of it. whenever a parent asks me to recommend a reptile for their child I usually talk them out of it...unless it is a child that is truly interested in reptiles and can care for one, like I was when I was a kid.

A friend of mine and I thought about starting a reptile rescue....but I really do not have the room to take in adult retics, anacondas, burmese pythons and multiple iguanas. Maybe one day I will do that, when I own my home and can create a large reptile room. My friend already has taken in a few adult boas and pythons...including a grumpy rock python. And he took in a large monitor. And he is already talking about not taking in anything else until he can get rid of some of the larger reptiles he has now. They take up a lot of room.

And the motion is passed!!

This guy sounds like a real jerk. Do you have an Animal Control force in your area? Animal Control could frequire the guy to provide proper care with documentation for the snake or take it from him, and find a place for it. What about a local zoo or reptile park? They will sometimes take large constrictors that have no GOOD home to go to for their exhibits. :shrugs:

I would definately fnd out who the breeder is by way of "polite conversation" and let the them know who this guy is and what he is doing. Seems to me that any responsible breeder would deny further sales to this nimrod...

Thanks for all the comments :) As for calling a pet rescue or a local zoo taking the snake? Probably not going to work...Like I mentioned in another post, when a friend of mine found a ball python in his garage, he called around everywhere he could think of that has to do with animals, and even the police, and no one would do a thing about it...not even offer a suggestion on who to call. Now if this was Florida, I suppose someone would have went to get it...but here in WI, any loose snake will just die unless it happens to be native, so I really don't think anyone cares. There's no reptile rescue. And the Animal shelter pretty much has the idea that all pet reptiles would be better off dead (I reported a pet store to them once, and that was the attitude I got). There is no pet store around here that even has enclosures big enough for an unwanted large snake, so none of them would take one either.

I highly doubt the guy would let me buy the snake either...I said I'll take it if he doesn't want it, but I got the impression that he had done this to other retics and he had it all worked out with the "breeder" that he'd sell it when it got big and get a new one. I have no idea where he plans to "sell" it. Probably another bad home....his friend who feeds live rabbits??? I don't know who the breeder is...I suppose I could ask. He said he's the guy who provides retics to local pet stores. I haven't seen a retic anywhere, so I don't know where he's talking about. Maybe it's not even a retic....he did say he didn't know if it was a python or boa, but I'm pretty sure he was trying to say "reticulated", he just pronounced it really bad LOL. Heck, if it's a boa I'd take it. I'll have to pick a few more details out of his shallow mind....

It's probably a friggin' Ball Python!! You know how men start to exagerate with regards to size when they're talkin' to a bunch of pretty ladies!! :grin01:

Becky-

If I were in your situation, I would go "undercover". Get the guy involved in snake discussions. "Talk Shop" with him, and convince him that you're his friend. Let him brag and boast, and you act all impressed. Eventually, he will let his guard down, and you'll be able to get all the information you need. You'll either find out that the guy is full of crap and doesn't even HAVE a snake, or at least not a retic, or you'll find out that he does have the snake, and who he gets them from.

Either way...it puts you in a better position to handle the situation, IMO.

That's a good point. Then you can sick <insert appropriate 'protect the animals' authority for your area here> on both him and the guy he gets them from.
