I want to buy f/t online, but can't decide how many to get.

Noobie Snake Girl
Hello All,

I have decided that it makes a whole lot of sense for me to buy f/t mice online. I have 2 young amel corn snakes, and they are both 20 -22 grams in weight. I have been feeding them 2 small pinkies every 6 - 7 days, but I think I should be feeding them 1 large pinkie every 5 - 6 days instead. (This is all pretty new to me.) I want to buy online so that I can have some consistency in the size of the pinkies. The selection here in town is poor, and the range in size varies widely. Space is not an issue, I have a deep freezer in the basement. My dilemma is trying to decide how many I should get because my two snakes are still pretty young, and growing. Shipping costs the same whether you buy 10 or 100, and I'd like to get the best value.

So here is my actual question: How long should I be feeding large pinkies, before I move up to fuzzies?

Thanks!

I bought a vacuum sealer and they stay fresh significantly longer sealed up in the vacuum bags, or buy them vacuum sealed already I think a few vendors do this. I have a few more snakes than you but I seal the mice in small 'single feeding' groups and put them back in the freezer.

My best guess is

50 - Large pinkies(figure on feeding double large pinkies to use them up)
50 - Peach Fuzzies
50 - Fuzzies mice
50 - Hoppers

You can buy super cheap vacuum seal bags and a hand-held small sealer. They are by Ziplock and are in the same section as the regular ziplock bags. I have all of my mice vacuum packed in these and it is much cheaper than buying a large sealer and I think they work well. Super easy.

Thanks for the advice guys! I've seen the ziplock bags you're talking about. I will try them. The mice should be fine in the freezer that long, right?

I do not vacuum seal mine. I just put one zip lock bag into another zip lock bag. If I was going to vacuum seal anything it would be my food. A little freezer burn will not hurt anything.

That depends on your snake. When the fuzzy is 1 to 1 1/2 times the widest part of the snake then it is ready to move up in size.

For the $4 the ZipLock vacuum thing is worth it, you can keep them for months and still no freezer burn..

Personally, I like them vacuum sealed. Then I put that bag in a ziploc and then in a plastic storage container. My mice are well packed, lol!

I love that little ziplock thing. Pretty cool I think!
