Im buying a .... Is this ok.

I found a switch for my heat lamp that i can turn it on and off during the day on a timer. Will this be ok to use. Cause my tank gets to hot at time. So was wondering if this will be ok to do. I have the infrared bulb.

You want to maintain a warm side temp at about 85* F. If using the timer helps you achieve that then yes, that's fine.

Tks dwyn. My temps get up to 90 f at times. so i figured i would buy the switch to turn it on and off to help keep the temps under control. i bought a new thermometer yesterday. it shows me the min and max temps. i am also gonna reduce the bulb. i have a 100 watt in the heat lamp now but gonna try a 50 watt bulb. and see how that works.

For our leopard gecko's viv I use a 20watt bulb with a rheostat. Found that in her 2 foot viv even the 50watt got too hot

Really? wow. i have a 40 gallon tank. and the pet shop dont have anythign smaller then a 50 watt. so i am gonna but the switch to turn it on/off to help control the temps. everything is a LOT more expensive in Newfoundland. I have spent bout $460 so far, and that only got me the snake, tank, heatlamp, bulb, substrate, thermometer and 10 pinkys. So starting to run out of money for other accesories. lol wife is starting to have a fit. Now in the 40 gal i have 3 hides, branches, and vines. so he got lots of places to hide and he can climb if he likes. i am getting him/her tomorrow so i will be gettin pics posted in the next week or so. after he settles in and starts to get use to me.

It might be because I've got her in a wooden viv. The best source of bulbs for us turned out to be the red ones used for electric fires with a 'glowing coal' effect.

No worries, I couldn't find less than 50watts in the petshops unless it was screw fitting instead of the bayonet type that my viv has to have. Then I had a brainwave and 'ta-da'! cheaper bulbs that are better for my viv!

cool. lucky you. i cant' wait until tomorrow. god i have been waitin for a VERY LONG TIME to get a snake. lol when i lived at home my father said yes but the boss <mom> said no. lol and when i moved out to go to college there just wasnt' any time for it. then i settled down had a kid got married. but finally after begging and pleding, wife caved. lol told her i wanted a transula but she said WHAT, GET YER SNAKE INSTEAD. so i said really, r u sure honey. hehe
