Hello everyone!

I am new to having a snake and planning to get an Albino Motley Corn Snake or a Ghost Corn Snake, just debating between the two right now but will get one next week if everything goes according to plan.

I have a Sterilite tub that is a 15 QT/14 L size with clamps on it for the lid, I want to know if that is good for me to use till I can afford a better cage (having a brain fart on what the name is) a week or two later, or should I wait till after I get the cage I want before getting the snake? Planning to use the tub to hold the snake while I clean its cage ever month as well. How often should I feed my snake when I get it? Any other tips would also help too!

I've been doing a lot of research over the past few weeks even though I've been wanting a corn snake for a pet for almost a decade. I am also getting the rest of the things I need like the heating pad, aspen shaving, water dish, plant decoration, some hiding spots and food.

Thank you for your time! :)

Hi and welcome. Did I miss how you are going to heat the tub? How often you feed depends on size of snake. There are stickies and the beginning of sub-forums with lots of info.
First and foremost when you get the snake do not handle for the first week and then only to feed after that for a few days. You want your snake to settle in and get used to its surroundings.

Thanks and I said I will be getting a heating pad and everything else I'll need before I get my snake next week. I just want clarification if the tub will be okay till I get a better cage to use.

Soy I missed it you need an adequate way to measure temp, on the surface over the UTH, not a stick on the side kind. The tub is fine most people with multiple snakes keep them in tubs all the time, the size depends on the size of the snake.

I'm not planning to get the stick kind. I was planning to get ones that I can set on the ground, one for both sides of the tub and I thought about getting a third for imbetween the two sides.

Good idea although a probe type set up to thermostat better. You want to know the temp under the bedding over the UTH, they can get very hot very fast.

Hello!
Don't forget to get a thermostat for your UTH.

It's also nice to have a scale that weighs in grams.

For a thermometer: I have an indoor/outdoor probed thermometer that I got from Walmart, it was around $12. I just set the unit on the cool side and put the probe on the glass over the UTH, next to the thermostat probe. It even tells me what the humidity is, it's great.

The tub is perfectly fine to use, many people here including myself have snakes in tubs, either permanently or as temporary housing.
