important temperture question

Oky i just checked on my new snake and on the warm side the tempurture is at 91 farenheit...thats too high isnt it?

its a UTH, is there any way to get it down?

We use a UTH and found that a piece of cardboard under the substrate lowers the temp just a few degrees. We also don't have to worry so much if he decides to burrow.

so should i put a peice of cardboard above the heating pad, under the substrate

he's burrowed right now, and i cant seem to find him in the Aspen, so i'm worried it may be too hot

I think what They mean for you to do is place a piece of carboard between the substrate and the glass if your using an aquarium to house your snake in that would help to keep the snake from comming in contact with the glass.

but do you thikn that i should worry that the temp under the substrate is 91 degrees

and if so...should i put a peice of carcboard between the glash and substrate to lower the temperture

ummm...heh...what is it?

but really..i need to know if 91 degrees is dangerously high for tonight for my snake. i mean the cool side is right, so if it gets to hot it can go over there

but i get worried, since he's just a baby. Should i put the card board there?

91 isn't dangerously high, but it is high. You should have a thermostat or a rheostat/lamp dimmer to lower the temp on your UTH. Cardboard isnt really safe because they can burrow under it.

Hi Kiki,
You should be able to purchase a rheostat or thermostat at any average pet store. There are several to choose from. You can get single ones or ones that will work on upto 3 different vivariums at a time. They range in price from $15.00 to over $100.00 depending on what you get and who makes it. Try this link here.... http://www.bigappleherp.com/Reptile_Supplies/Catalog/Heating_Controllers_27.html
We use the Electronic BAH-1000 Thermostat as it allows us to control the heat on upto 3 vivariums or rack systems. Hope this helps.
