Anyone want to join me?

My girls were producing really well and my freezer was stocked. Then I got a few eating their babies, which sucked but they went in the freezer as well. I have adults in the freezer now, but Im completely out of hoppers, and I need them for 3 of my snakes. Almost out of pinkies and I need those, and almost out of the fuzzies I need for another snake. No new pinkies, my rats wont breed and Im dreading the $2 a piece Im going to have to pay for everything I need. Anyone else going through this or is this my own personal Hell? :sobstory:

I know the feeling. I don't know if I'll have enough pinkies for my hatchlings when they come without having to order some... I started my 1.3 mouse colony the first week of April. One girl popped on Friday, but cannibalized the ENTIRE litter before I even knew she'd given birth! Now, I have to wait for a second girl to give birth... And the third isn't even showing her pregnancy yet! >.<;; The eggs are due in 3 days, and I have a whopping 8 pinkies in the freezer (and a payload of 6 pinkies a week with the current snakes). To top things off, my mom keeps putting off the next TMF order, so we're paying $22 for a whopping two 50-gram rats and four 20-gram mice every week or two.

So don't worry. You aren't alone in this rodent rut hell.

I can definitely sympathize. On Saturday, we had a power outage in our house. We went down to flip the breaker switch, and everything came back on. About an hour later, we got into our extra freezer (just a small old upright freezer - it's about the size of a mini-fridge), and everything was melting in there. I had 20 pinkies, 80-ish fuzzies, and 35-40 weanlings in there. The only thing that survived were the weanlings. (they were close to the grate, and they had more mass, obviously.)
So I guess i'm just fortunate that I had extras in my regular freezer, and didn't lose everything. I've got enough until the next reptile show, and then I have to buy more.
I lost about $30-40 worth of mice in the freezer adventure of '09, so I can understand your pain. LOL - I can only imagine what it would be like to have my own breeders. Knowing my luck, one mouse would kill everyone else, and then it would somehow kill itself. That's how my luck has been lately.

Yes I know how you feel too, all my mice have been breeding really well but due to the freezer being well and truly stocked I stopped for a while. Now I am also getting low on fuzzies as all of my 98 hatchlings are now on fuzzies. I have put a new pair together and hoping they will not eat their litter or I will be really low on food.

Im glad to hear Im not alone, as evil as that may be, lol. Im sorry for everyones frustrations. Im working on getting a new colony, but mice cost money as you know.

LOL, KJUN. Being the owner of goats, I know. I wasnt paying attention when I was typing that. I shouldnt be on the phone while Im POed and typing. :p

Well, my rut just deepened considerably. The second girl had her litter sometime last night, and by the time I checked on them at about 7:45 AM, she had killed all but two of them, out of 8 or 12 (can't remember the exact count). I took out the dead and bloody things, and then the dad to give her a break (he was unbelievably horny, lol). Before I left for school, one of the remaining two was a lump of cold skin. By the time I got home from school, all that was left of the last one was some blood smears on the nesting tissue... My colony is 1.3 again (figure, why take a cannibal away if the others are cannibals, too?), and, with any luck, Fudge will be a better mom than the other two... Stupid mice. They hate me, I swear... :)

Okay, I don't get the joke. Goodness, you guys and your jokes are making me feel like a little kid!! Lol

Good luck with the new colony, Dachirsuhaco. I hope you have better luck than I am... ;)
