Rambling thread - I was just musing on what a difference incubation temps make in hatching time:
Candy laid her clutch on March 9th, and they finished hatching on May 23rd
She lays the earliest of all my girls, so I didn't have my incubator set up (I've found there's no harm in letting them sit at room temp as long as you keep them humid enough).
My sunkissed girl laid next on the 19th, then Lady Bub laid on the 29th (and Ifrit on the 30th).
So here it is, a week after the 23rd, and Lady Bub's clutch is pipping while the sunkissed clutch is still sitting pretty! What is the (likely) difference? Lady bub's clutch went in the incubator right away, thus catching up some time with Candy's clutch, I think. Meanwhile, I ended up taking the sunkissed clutch out of the incubator because it was having some mold problems and I thought the lower humidity might help (it seemed to).
I'm pretty sure the difference is the temps rather than the mold or other issues... although I admit the sunkissed eggs are TINY! ... I'll have to take a photo of them next to the hypo miami eggs, which are the biggest eggs I've ever seen O-o
I don't think there's anything worse or better about incubating at 85F vs 75F (70-75F being the ambient temp in my snakeroom), just the eggs take a little longer to hatch at the lower temps.
All things considered, this is the perfect hatching time for me... right after finals are over What a treat!
