indoor/outdoor carpet?

"It's Hammer Time!!"
is it alright to put a piece of indoor/outdoor under the substrate to prevent the snake from touching the glass?

I use Reptile carpet bought at your local pet store. Then i put aspen on top. My snake seems to like it! Make sure the carpet is tacked down so the snake can't get under it though!

The only problem with the carpet is that it holds bacteria and such if it gets dirty. It's easier to stick a piece of paper towel down under the substrate, tape all the edges with scotch tape and then cover with aspen. All you have to do to clean is pull it up, instead of having to constantly wash the other. Or, you can hook the uth to a thermostat to keep the temps down where they should be.
