Infared Thermometer and Incubating

Has anyone used an IR thermometer to measure the temps inside their egg boxes etc. I am trying to figure out a way to keep accurate temps of my egg boxes with out having a heat leaking, moisture leaking hole for a wire to fit through. Will it take temps through plastic or glass? Or do you still have to open the box to take a reading?

Thanks,

Ours reads the temperature of the first surface it touches, so it reads the outside of an egg box if we don't open the tub to read the actual temp of the eggs. I use the temp gun to double check the probe of an indoor/outdoor thermometer that we use to monitor the inside of the incubator - we run that probe into an egg box through a crack in the lid of the egg box, but no worries about humidity or temp excaping as the humidity is saturated in our incubator.
