Intelligent snake?

Total Freak
My new CalKing girl (the big chocolate and white striped) comes to me when I call. Seriously. I have her by our computer and she comes out and watched me when I'm typing. I can tap my finger on her box and talk to her and she comes right up to me and looks me right in the eye. I'm thinking this is not normal snake behaviour. :shrugs: I love it. Everytime I tap and call she slides up to me. Ahhhhhhhh, sweet huh? :D

I would think the snake just comes up to have a look... and considering it's a king, maybe your finger looks like mouse LOL...

But it is very cute ;)

Snakes can feel vibrations (thus they are curious when you type, tap on the glass, and there are some vibrations that are induced in matter when you talk). As for the snake learning her name and such, I dont' think that can be done unless you can translate it directly to a vibration.

Most snakes in captivity are curious when it comes to their keepers. I have a few snakes that make an apperence when I walk into the room (picking up my scent I guess). and others like to "watch" TV with me, or head bob to music.

But you are right, it is cool when they interact with you like that

I'd say individual snakes have different views on human-herp relations. Some of mine seem to come running when I open their home and others run the other way. I prefer the come running types, personally, lol. Hopefully yours stays one of the come running types

 Dang, I was hoping I was just such an awesome snaker (is that a word) that my snake was coming to me a'la' Dr. Doolittle style. None of the others do it.

My California King also seems to come when I call, but he has always been my boldest and most outgoing snake. None of my others do it either. I think it must just be in the Cal King personality.

Retics love to watch people, mine will sit there all day just watching me. I'll open up his enclosure for him to come out, but instead he will just rest with his head out where he can see me, he was like that for two hours once.

:roflmao:

All of my larger corns peek out when I walk past their tuppers. Same with a large number of our yearlings. Only a few hatchlings will though. I think it's just natural curiosity and the fact that they have been here long enough to associate the sound of me and food. Scary thought. lol

Neither of my cali kings are that interested though.

Last night when I went to handle Bobo, I took the screen lid off and he came right out towards me. I've had him since he was a 23g hatchling back in April 05. He is by far my "tamest" corn, but I've also had him the longest. He has only bitten me once, and that was after I had foolishly handled mice without washing my hands. He tried to eat MY pinky! The 3 corns, I have to "chase" to get them to come out. My big '01 Anery Lavender never wants to go back IN his viv though. I put him in and he tries to hold onto the sides to keep from going in. He's great to handle once he's out, but getting him can be a little tricky. He also does a little whippy dance when I first get him out, but then once he's out and crawling around me, he doesn't want to go back in! I think all corns seem to have some kind of personality, even if it only their natural instincts coming out. Its at least fun to think that they "think".

I have one corn that will always come out to me. She's one of my .05 bloodreds from Mike Frase's new wildcaught line.

She was so spoiled when I got her that she would only eat if I fed her by hand. I mean, Mike said she would eat from his hand; it never dawned on me that that was the only way she would feed.

She's still a spoiled snake.

See and people say they are not pets. Whatever. Although I do think Galen's monster honduran tried to choke me last night. :) He walked up to me as I was outside having a beer with the neighbors and stuck him on my neck. The only thing that was going through my mind was the "snakes, round the neck or not" thread. LOLOL

Wow, that's a great retic picture. I was thinking the same thing when I saw it- the snake is calculating dimensions and effort to see if it's worth his while. :grin01:

I've always thought that snakes have their individual personalities...

My butter corn will actually bob his head to music on TV occasionally...
but he is very picky as to "which" music it seems.

I have been trying to show this to one of my friend that does not believe me... and naturally, he will never do it when someone else is around.... grrrrrrrr
lol...!!!!

Nonetheless, I think it’s excellent that so many people have such unique animals...!!!
