Hell everyone. I'm from Southeastern PA and new to the forums and new to corn snakes (and snakes in general).
I want to thank all the experienced snake owners on these forums for all their suggestions. Though I have not asked any questions directly, every question I had about caring for a corn snake was answered in the FAQ section or with a little searching around (go figure).
I got our new viv set up over the past weekend and decided we were ready for our new friend. I thought long and hard about buying one of the many morphs offered by breeders, but I thought a generic Petco baby corn would suffice for our first. I went out with the kiddies and got him/her last night. They were very excited but understood it was important for the snake to get comfortable in its new home before they held it. I placed the snake in the tank and put the kids to bed. He/she spent most of the night searching around it's new home. When I woke up this morning, it was resting comfortably inside one of the toilet paper holders I had placed in there. Success!
One question I did have: When I bought the little guy, I forgot to ask the reptile "expert" at Petco when the snake was last fed, so I called back today to ask. The lady I talked to, who actually seemed knowledgable and suggested some of the same things I read on here, said she had been on vacation and from what their records had shown, the snakes were a new batch they just got in earlier in the week and had not yet been fed in the store. They had no record of when they had been fed previously. Anyway, from things I've read on here, it's usually a good idea to wait to feed for 2-3 days for the snake to get used to it's home. I was originally planning on feeding on Saturday, but, not knowing when it ate last, I'm not sure if that would be too long.
Thanks again for all the help! Now we just have to think of a name for the little guy/girl.
