My snake went blue last week and has went through a 2 day clear period but her skin is NO WHERE in her viv. Her underbelly is no longer dull and she just looks like she has shed...I don't have aspen in her viv, I use husked coconut but I don't think she would shed under the coconut. She never even burrows under there...Its kinda weird to me, cause she just looks like she shed, but there is no skin. Hmmm.... :confused:
 
Snakes clear just before they shed. You haven't found the skin because it's still on the snake!:)
 
Thats just so weird...she has cleared up before, but NEVER like this. She looks brand new...but maybe, I will let you know in a few days :D
 
Hmmm...weird. She still looks clean and shiny and there is no skin...We have had kings, but they never ate their own skin.

I went viv diving today and came up empty handed :(
 
Well i would place her into a small contaier with plenty of air flow put some spagnum or moist paper towl into the container. Keep a close watch on her for about 3 or 4 hours. When snakes shed they emit a liquid between thier scales (hence the blue eye color) sometimes if the snake is in to dry of conditions there is not enough liquid, that is why humidity is key when snakes are shedding. Oh, I promise she is not to dry. The humidity is about 90 in her viv. I have wet paper towels covering it at all times...

So either she just looks REALLY good right before a shed, or her old skin has somehow evaporated.
 
Well I do see one problem, the humidity is high...very high. I keep my corns at about 40% and they all get humid hides. Mabye the high humidity is messing with the corns ability to shed. I don' know how that would happen but IDK. I read that you were using Coco fiber that stuff is very good at holding humidity. I would suggest Aspen, Sani Chips,reptile bark, and newspaper or plain paper towel.
 
I can't use aspen, my sister is allergic. I don't like Sani Chips really and newspaper gets ink all over my snake. Paper towls don't leave her anywhere to burrow and look bad also. IDK about retile bark but I prefer a fine, soil like substrate. I love the coconut. Right now the humidity is 50, so I was off with that. I couldnt see the gage very well..

Ok 50% sounds good, I would really cut the coco fiber...it sucks for corns. It is good for Taiwan Beautys, tree dwelling snakes. Try a dry bedding with a humid hide
 
It may say that but it is not really the best choice. I tried using it for my 3 corns and it was aweful
 
Hmmm, well Erricca seems to be doing fine with it. The humidity never gets to to to high, unless I want it to or spray the cage. It actually sits at about 40 humidity when I don't add the larger water bowl. Our house has a built in de-humidifier thingy and so coconut holds moisture really well.
 
I have a Amel, ghost and sunglow not to metion about 27 other snakes on top of that. Only one has bedding all the other have newspaper
 
you could try cypress mulch since all others you dont like. keeps humidity well for a lot of creatures, but i never have to mist a corn enclosure. maybe a couple times in winter if its really dry, or during shed only. coco fiber is an alright bedding for some snakes. its not a bad thing for corns or gonna cause any harm. so i wouldnt worry. and your snake will shed dont worry. mine go perfect looking right before most sheds. pick him/her up. does the skin feel a bit loose. cause you can feel the difference in normal scales and a skin about to shed.
 
I picked her up, but didn't feel extra skin. I can feel scales perfectly...IDK. Its a mystery. And I think I will just stick with Coconut. It works for me, works for Erricca. So we are all happy :)
 
Check everywhere in the tank again. I've found shed skins wrapped up and stuck to the top of the inside of my snake's hide. :]

Coconut is not terrible for snakes, I used it for a while, but it was meant for humidity. It was very hard to dry and keep dry, and I found my snake used to choose her tree to sleep in rather than the ground. When I switched to aspen, she started to move around and explore more. But I also have a friend who's snake is doing just well on coconut. It depends. Reptile bark is a good choice.

Has your snake been hiding more or out and about more? A change in personality could be linked to a soon-to-be-shed. My snake will hide until she's cleared up, then she'll constantly be out, rubbing her head and such, for days.
