Is fir poisonous?

I assume you are refering to Fir trees?

Fir trees are a type of evergreen tree (coniferous).

I personally wouldn't risk it. They secrete the same oils pine and cedar do.

Hope that helps a bit.

I think that fir is what reptibark is made from...it makes me very itchy, I quit using it with Sienna.

Ahh! What do I do? I had Four Paws crap and some of its still in there. Like the dust but my snake is in there! Ah! freaking out and taking him out will stress him. lol

Well the bark maybe different. I don't know anything about reptibark except it's messy.

I was just commenting on the "meat" of this tree.

Ok...take it easy....DON'T PANIC

Fir is fine....Repti-bark is made out of 100% pur fir bark, and I have not heard of a single problem using repti-bark with corns...and believe me I've read as much as possible on Repti-bark(I'm currently trying it myself)

Hope this eased your mind

P.S. I would just use the bark...

lizard litter, desert blend?

What about lizard litter, made with white fir and eucalyptus? Or about desert blend? Are these okay?

Why do the packages say they are okay if they are so bad. Same as bone aid, it says okay but people say no.

I ask because I have been using the bone aid for a while and my other snake i use the desert blne never having a problem, but i am changing because every one says its bad. But it seems almost every thing is bad.

I wouldn't use the white fir or the eucalyptus...Best to just stick with what you KNOW is ok for the corn. While brief contact with those substrates may not hurt the snake, you have to remember that that is ALL they sit on...and if it is even slightly bad for your snake...after prolonged time on the substrate will most likely harbor ill effects. You also want to be careful of substrate that is TOO fine(like sandy stuff), that stuff definately doesn't digest well, and is very easy to ingest. Also, i think, it tends to get a bit warmer than the other substrate.

You'll notice on the package, it doesn't say whether the desert blend or the white fir is ok for corn snakes. While those substrates may be just fine for OTHER reptiles, they may not be for corns(I wouldn't risk it).

If I were you I wouldn't 'gamble' with the question 'I wonder if this will be ok'. Just stick with what you know is good ;)

But thats just my opinion.

The lizard litter does say corns on it, and says no pine or ceder is in it.
Is the repti bark the wet dirty stuff? What about coconut shavings? Are they okay?

Repti bark is the dark brown stuff that looks like bark. I've used both repti bark and coconut husk and the only objection is the difficulty finding the poops for cleaning. Otherwise they seemed fine.
