between an aquarium and terrarium or are they both just "tanks" until you place a living thing in it...reptile=terrarium, fish=aquarium? i am curious because i upgraded my snakes tank yesterday and when i got home i saw that the label inside said "aquarium" and had pictures of ugly fish swimming around...i see no difference...but i'm just curious.

My reptile habitat said "Don't fill with water." I get the impression that aquaria are built so a higher stadard for leakage and pressure than are those tanks designed for use as vivs.

okay...but there is...

nothing wrong with housing a snake in an aquarium? there is nothing structurally different other than aquarium is built to hold water? i just want assurance that he is fine where he is.

Biggest issues are substrate, temp gradient, hides, and water bowl. He won't care about the quality of the seals. Oh, one more thing...a tight fitting screen over the top. I hear that finding a lost snake in a house is worse than a needle in a haystack.

hehehe...yea...

i lock my little serpent in. he has attempted to escape multiple times in the past. thanks for the info :)

Needle in a Haystack....

I agree with you there! I've only permanently lost 3 snakes, but I've had many more escape... it's the littlest ones that never seem to return. I've several times had ones escape and be found before they were discovered as escapees.... Once hubby and I came home and he said: "Here's a snake on the ground" in our bedroom, and I said, "Yeah, here's another one!"... another time found one crawling out of an AC vent, and another was basking in the toilet. Yet another was curled up at the four corners of four tanks all sharing the same heating pad... it had curled up in the middle, right on the people heating pad. Silly critters.

funniness...

i guess i've been pretty fortunate. okay...next question...

is it common for snakes to spend much of their time in hiding? i am SURE this question has been asked on this forum a trizillion times, but i went home during lunch and he's hiding somewhere...i know he's in there, i didn't have the time or energy to lift up every hide and water bowl, but this is often his case...he just chills out inside something. he just shed a few days ago...and then ate...and then i handled him last night for a while...and he's in a new home...so maybe he's just adjusting to things again and stuff. who knows.

Perfectly normal behavior. Hemay become a little more active once adjusted to his new home but hiding during the day is very common.
