Is there something wrong with my F/T mice?

Well I am not quite sure what is going on and how to word this thread. I have had some of my males and females refusing the F/T mice I have been offering for some time now. I have some males and females eating the F/T mice out of the same bag the others won't eat. This is strange to me and frustrating. So I took some live mice out of the rack and offered them. I didn't kill them that way I could put them back if they didn't get eaten. Well of course what I thought would happen happened. Every single one that wasn't eating F/T ate the live mice. Keep in mind that all of this has been happening over the past month. Some of the males were eating and some haven't ate since March. Some of the females laid eggs and some haven't yet, but are due in the next couple of weeks.

I am not sure what is going on with them and their eating preferences. I know the mice aren't freezer burnt or nothing like that. I even offer smaller than normal F/T mice and leave them for hours and still nothing.

Can anyone help me or even experienced this?

Around breeding season I've had a few f/t mice eaters switch to live for no reason. Usually, however, they go back to their previous ways. You can always try putting the f/t mice in late evening and waiting until morning...sometimes that works. If it doesn't, you have old mice...but snapping turtles and crocs love them!

There is a such of a think as "OLD MICE"? If so I really need to be educated on that one please.

The bag I am using out of was purchased at the Raleigh show in May. Surely the mice aren't over a month or two old. Is that too long? This is really getting me now since some snake are eating the same mice I am offering all of the snakes and some aren't. I guess it is just a case by case snake by snake situation then.
The run down is 3 males and 1 female not eating F/T and 1 male and 4 females are eating F/T. I am talking about hopper to adult sized F/T mice btw.

All of my other snakes are on pinkies to crawler stage mice which are F/T and I am raising here at home.

Guess time will tell and I hope they turn around and go back to F/T in the coming weeks.

Oops...In the above I meant you would have old mice if you left them out overnight. And thus...they would be smelly and some snakes aren't too fond of them...but I find my snapping turtle and croc don't mind.

As far as "old" in the other sense...wouldn't know...I go through them too fast for any of them to get old.

Thanks for making that clear Jeff. I know what you mean now and I haven't left them all that too long for them to start rotting and smelling. I can old imagine what that would be like....(Road Kill a few days old). LOL
