Is this a Lavender Motley?

Can someone please identify our new little girl? The herp at the reptile store wasn't quite sure...we thought at first she was a pastel but now believe she is a Lavender Motley. She has beautiful light and dark pinks and some darker purples as well as some yellow down the sides of her body and a beautiful light pink/white belly. Thanks for any insight. The pictures really don't show her true colors.

I have to agree, it looks like a regular pastel(ghost) motley. I understand hurricanes to have a more circular motley pattern. I'm pretty sure its not caramel. Just my guess.

Yeah, looks like a Pastel Motley to me. Some of the Lavender Motleys can be rather grayish looking, which certainly could fool people, but there is a difference if you have seen both.

That's a motley/striped pattern, not a hurricane pattern. Hurricanes are perfect motley patterns with a darker 'hurricane' shapes around the outside of the motley circle.

You have a very light and grey ghost stripe that doesn't have 'pastel' colors. The snake in question is most definitely a striped pastel motley.

I agree it is a striped/motley ghost. I don't use the term "pastel" for ones that are that dark, however. To each his own...LOL

Here is my pastel ghost motley:

He is even lighter now. This picture is a couple of months or so old.

i found this one labeled as pastel

so i am assuming that there is a similarity to them that you cant really tell unless you know the parents.... :shrugs:

Well for one, Lavender Motleys are not common, and they're a good $500+ snake.

I highly doubt any pet store has them for sale.

Pastel motleys are a $50 snake, and the assumption would always be a pastel motley over a lavender motley any day of the week.

Not to mention, I thought off the bat pastel motley when I saw it.

We didn't just buy them from a pet store (like pet co)... We are good friends with a local reptile shop and one of the herps there is good friends with a breeder in our state, every now and then he has corns shiped to him for us too look at...when we buy our snakes we like to touch them, handle them, look at them...etc... this way we can. :)

We never stated how much we paid for it either... :crazy02:

Local reptile shop = pet store, at least in my opinion.

What did you buy the snake as? A Pastel Motley, correct?

How much did you pay for it?

I doubt that whomever sells to him would sell him a lavender motley. I can only think of a handful of people off the top of my head that would be selling those this year, or last for that matter.

I know you WANT it to be a Lavender Motley, but why don't you just accept the fact that maybe the people here telling you it is NOT may just happen to know what they are talking about?

Personally, I have hatched out LOTS of Pastel Motleys as well as Lavender Motleys, and I think I have a pretty good handle on recognizing which is which.

I'm sorry if you were only looking for confirmation that what you got is actually a Lavender Motley, but alas, that just is not the case.

At this particular shop all the people who work there (excluding pooper scoopers) are retired zoo workers. They all have 15 or more years under their belts, and at a pet store (IMO) you wouldnt have venemous snakes.. at this place they do. These people aren't like other Rep shops. They come equiped with their own rep vet.

We aquired the snake along with others, therefore cut a deal.
They called us in the day they got them and didn't have a price on them for the public.
The breeder they got it from marked them as motley..(there were two there, my husband picked the lighter of the two, the pic you see now) :)

It is not that I wont take that as the fact of the matter, we have been told by quite a few others that it was a lav. I am just trying to get an accumulation of thoughts...not underestimating your judgement or anyone elses, that is why i am asking more then one person. because i cannot tell from looking at pics. :)

Well, if I had a question about what was a lav or not, I'd ask Rich. Why? Well, Rich founded the lavender line and has been working with it for what, 15 or more years?

I think it's safe to say that you have a 'striped pastel motley'. Nothing wrong with that---it's a gorgeous snake, it's just not a lavender.

Thank you.

Since I am unfamiliar with pastels, are they recessive? What can I breed them to so they look Pastel or would that even work?

Is there anyway to tell what any snake is (gene wise) Het...etc by breeding to certian snakes?
