Is this right???

I don't worry much about hand-washing and changing clothes. I would worry more about the extra laundry then I would about salmonella on my sweater.
I do wash my hands after handling most animals, but that's more because I have allergies to most everything, and pretty sensitive skin. I get the itchies.
Oddly enough, my snakes are about the only things that don't bother me - so I don't much bother with the washing after handling. (Unless of course they musk because that just stinks, or if I've been playing with mice - that just makes them see my hands as snacks.)
I've yet to pick up any bacteria that has had an adverse affect on me. I've not ever heard of anyone else getting salmonella come to think of it.
I wouldn't worry - just wash your hands if it makes you feel more comfortable.

Thank everyone for all their info, it really helps. So if it crawls on something, I should just leave it, right? I'm planning to buy one of Kathy's books, but I think she has more than one edition. Any one have any recommendations on which one to buy?

:-offtopic lol, this is totally cool. Snake VS. Rabbit, LOL. I don't have a corn yet, but I was wondering if this is how corns would eat a live mouse?
Advisory: There is no blood, but there is a little bit of profanity in the video, and on the website. (Double click on movie to enlarge)

Snake VS. Rabbit

That's cool how the ball python (I think) eats the whole rabbit, the rabbit is like 5 times bigger than the snakes head. At the end, the guy is like "Fuc*, it smells!" Does it really smell when you feed your corn live prey? Does the corn squeeze all of the innards out of the mouse? Anyways, that video's awesome. :)

First of all, your quite an odd one.

Second of all, you should feed your corn prekilled for a VARIETY of reasons.

and btw. your worried about salmonella yet you wouldnt mind being covered in dead animal contents?

i wonder which is safer?

Nope the innards are the best part! & I feed pre-killed.

I don't have a corn so I can't feed it prey, live or prekilled. If I ever did get one, I was never planning to feed it live prey. I know all the risks for feeding live prey, and I only gave a link to the video because I wanted to know if that is how it would be like for a corn to eat something live. It is also a quite bizarre movie, due to the fact they meet face to face, I haven't seen anything like that before. I wanted to share it, and just because the person in the movie fed it live prey, it doesn't mean I would. And my salmonella problems have been answered already.

Oh really? Okay then, I've been having a crazy day anyways. Sorry for the response. Man, it's hard to get the correct tone of people in text-oriented words. :) Thanx Preita, the latest edition is the one on her site right? How do you do that quote thing, where you quote them and answer inbetween? lol, I'm a noob to these forums.

For the MOST part, people wont take random shots at you. Unless of course you say something bad

Hey guys I got another Q. Let's say I go to a breeder to buy a corn, what are the signs of a non-skittish one? From what I've heard, most corns are curious and will move everywhere. So then what signs am I supposed to look for if I wanted a mellow and calm cornsnake? To put it simply: How do I tell the difference between a skittish corn and a mellow corn if they both act almost the same? I don't know anything about the speed of how fast a skittish one moves compared to how a calm one moves, they seem about the same to me. :shrugs:

If I was shopping for a hatchling I would want a "skittish" one more than a "mellow" thinking that the mellow one was sick/ill or other problems.

Okay thanks, even if I do get a snappy one, I'm pretty sure that it will tame over time. :)

Hey supersnake Try scrolling down to the jump forum section and check out the FAQ development forum, some useful info there. And also scroll all the way down ..... more...ok to the archives and check out some of the question and answers to some old threads too.

Good luck on you quest for that SUPER DUPPER CORN SNAKE.
sorry gettin' crazy.

take them out and hold them. let them crawl around and get to know them. then choose one. you dont want one that rockets all over the place, but then again you dont want one who doesnt move. look for one that when you take it out, it pokes around and crawls from one hand to the next. look for one that seems curious. if your handling it for a while, it should get to the point where it will just rest in a comfortable spot on your hand and chill.
