okay so i just want to make sure that my Viv setup is safe and okay for my new cornsnake (I am a total newb)

So the Viv is 10 gallons (the snake is about a foot long and still under a couple months old..he's a hatchling i guess). I'm using aspen substrate. The ehating pad is under half of the tank (the warm side being between 79-80 % and the cool side between 72-78). I have two hides--one on the warm side and one on the cool side. I have a shallow water bowl, large enough for him to curl up in. I'm feeding him 2 pinkies every ten days (should i do two a week or once a week, or is that good). Than i have other cage acceseries, like things to climb on and stuff.


is that good?
 
hah...sorry if i seem to ask too many questions...

i'm just really exited, and want everything to be perfect for my new snake ^_^
 
Every is good but the feeding.
I don't like feeding two food items at one time. Only if you are moving up to the next size do you feed two food items to prepare the snake for a larger food item. The rule of thumb is to feed you snake an food item that is 1 1/2 time the snakes girth. And ..when that doesn't leave a noticeable lump you start the process again. Feeding two food items of the same size for a few feedings. Now being it a foot long hatchling... you can feed it every five to seven days one food item. So not knowing (seeing) the girth of the snake and the true size of the food item. I can tell you exactly what to do. but that is the general guideline.

Sounds like you're a very commited and keen new owner! I'd suggest 1 food item a week as a schedule, if your snake can deal with 2 pinkies already then maye 1 large pink/peach fuzz would be suitable.
 
Sounds good, but what kind of thermometer are you using? Is there something to regulate the under tank heater like a thermostat or rheostat?

You should have a thermometer with a probe stuck under the substrate right over the UTH to make sure it doesn't get too hot.
